Newbie on this forum. Buying my first HT setup. Budget 1.2 l - 1.5 l.
Room 12'x12'.
Narrowed down my avr choices to the following:-
Denon avr x2100w
Yamaha rx v677/ v777
Yamaha rx a820/840
Sony str dn 1050
Pioneer sc lx 57
Onkyo nr636

Request somebody to rate them on technicals.
I need wifi, bluetooth and airplay.
Also request suggestions for speakers 5.1 to fit within the budget.

Thanks.

Pioneer Lx-57 is a good choice. It has the best specs available. And its costlier than the rest. I think you should compare similarly priced receivers. If u have the budget of 1.5L why dont you look at some hi-end Marantz receivers?
Mention about your needs-movie or music??sound taste etc.And acoording to me there are no good and bad speakers in your budget all you need is to find out is which one sounds the way you like, each speaker has its own nature. Listen to the speakers availbe for demo and choose a brand or model which you feel sounds good. The most important thing about choosing speakers and amplifer is that hear what ever you can and choose the sound you like the most and shorten your choices and post here for expert review. hope this helps:)

Thanks for a quick response Noel.
My original choice after much browsing was Marantz 5008/5009. Then I read horror stories of its poor servicing facility. There apparently is none in Delhi. With the same advice the dealer who I was interacting with weaned me off Marantzs.
We are a music oriented family but don't want to compromise on movie effects also. So we'll keep our orientation at 60/40.
Any dealers for the Pioneer in Delhi?
I asked for choices in speakers because the variety is immense and auditioning all will be much time consuming. Therefore if the choice could be narrowed down here then the effort will be lesser..
Thanks

If you could update the approx cost against the AVR, will give FM rough idea of your remaining budget for speakers... They could suggest accordingly...

Onkyo recalled the NR 616 in the US due to HDMI issues. They however did not recall many other amps that had the same HDMI issues, like a TX SR 805. They also did not recall the Integra badged version of the 616. Make sure if the 636 is in that same family, and if so, you may want to avoid it, cos onkyo may decide they dont want to fix it in a recall.
Cool.
Srinath.

If you need airplay then you can strike off Onkyo.

The service horror stories about Marantz are true, at least if you are not in Mumbai.

Since you are more into music then satellites are ruled out.
With the remaining budget you can either get decent bookshelves or entry level floorstanders.
For starters you can look at Dali Zensor series, Monitor Audio BX series, Tannoy V4i, etc.
You will find other good options from brands like Paradigm, Epos, Polk Audio, Q Acoustics, etc.

These are just pointers to get you started and not full fledged recommendations.

Music to me is a 2 channel amp powering the fronts. You can put a 5 ch preamp and only run the front 2 with 2 channel music.
Adcom made a beauty that was a 3 channel amp. If I recall it was a single 100 and 2 50's. To power the center and the 2 rears. You power the front with somehting like a 5500, and use this for the other 3 when doing 5.1.

Cool.

If its pure HT,then Pioneer LX57 is fine choice.
If need for music too, then marantz SR5009 is good choice.

Go with NAD. Its a good choice for both movies and music. BTW is the Sony AVR available in India?

Wanted to try out sony str dn 1050. Was told by all dealers that sony avr are not available in India. Sony India website also does not indicate availability.
Thanx for ur suggestion about NAD.

There are few decent 7.2 AVR's (Onkyo 626's , yamaha v675 etc) which are on heavy discounted price (more than 50% off) in Amazon US since the black friday sale. Why dont you buy one of those and get it shipped here through international shippers like Hopshopgo , Borderlinx etc.. The total cost (product cost + shipping + custom charges + step down transformer) will still work out to be atleast 15K lesser....
