Hi there, I have been reading these forums since the past 3 hours now... lol. I finally decided that I should register and ask for suggestions. I have quite a bit of knowledge when it comes to buying an LCD monitor, but TV's are completely different when talking about panel types. I never knew Samsung had the 'Panel Lottery' issue with LCD TV's too... Samsung sucks! And that is the reason why I omitted Samsung from my shortlist completely [and I have read about vertical motion judder issues in quite a few Samsung reviews]. I have never been lucky... so out with Samsung... lol.

Coming to the point... I was confused of what to buy between the Sony 40EX710/Sony 40NX700/LG LE7500. My budget is around 70k - 110k and all these three lie within my desired price range.

Which, according to you, would be a value for money LCD & why? [in terms of service policies/repairs, features, lifespan & PS3 gaming]

Thank you all for reading. Hope to get enough replies in the next few days, so that I can book it this week. I have a [don't laugh] 29" CRT at present... never really cared about switching to an LCD because I am a hardcore gamer & my assembled PC is more expensive than a 60" LCD, so the PC is all I need. I just bought the PS3 & I realized that I need to switch to an LCD for a better gaming experience. :)

Yesterday on Diwali I purchased Sony Bravia 40EX710 for 71,500/- after hard bargain. I am yet to explore the product. Does anyone know how is this LED TV in this price?

Strange! Not one reply in 2 days! :(
Please people, I need to buy an LED TV this week.
Also, I would like to know what type of panels are used in 40NX700 & LE7500?
I know that 40EX710 uses a S-PVA panel, which are better than MVA panels.

The LG has a ips panel while the Sony NX700 has a UV2A panel which has one of the lowest ,if not the lowest response times in lcd displays. It also slightly better then SPVA in viewing angle.

The NX series has you know has a super glossy screen, which reflects. So in day time if you have significant ambient light, you will have to compensate the glare with higher backlight settings. In the night if the tv still reflects ,but at night increasing the backlight will= lighter/grey blacks.

Do note the Sony lcds don't have a text mode via hdmi,so if you use it has a monitor for surfing the net etc text won't look as sharp as its supposed to be.
But is fine for gaming.

I bought 40HX800 this diwali for 110k. Its a 3D TV and Sony is giving unmatched offer on this (I believe its still on). Check this out as it has completely new panal and as per Sony GigaContrast. I really awesome TV and I'm in love with this. Even SD contents looks good on this.

I've never been one to look at companies like LG. Prejudice, I guess, but they don't strike me with confidence when it comes to after-sales service so I wouldn't be able to comment on the LG model you've mentioned.

You've already read my opinon of the EX710. Regarding the NX700, I never auditioned that series since it didn't have sizes over 50" but I can tell you that any revies I've heard of it aren't very flattering.

I know you've ruled out Samsung for the "Panel Lottery" issue as adder has so eloquently termed it, but if there is some way that can figure out which panel you are getting based on the Serial Number / Model ID (adder can help with that I guess), then I would ask you to blindly pick up the C6900 Series from Samsung. It is the best among all the 2D LED-LCD TV's I've seen so far.

I know you are not looking at 3D, but you might want to check out the HX800 from Sony. It's a solid 2D performer and with all the freebies they are giving you for Diwali, it seems like a pretty good deal.

EDIT: How to find the right panel with Samsung?

Thank you for that insight satan, adder
I hope what you say is right satan & they let me choose the panel version I want.
I am mostly gonna purchase from Chroma OR Sony Mony, Mumbai.
What if they deliver a non-SPVA panel even after commitment? Once the box is opened... there is no going back... and I don't think the version is written on the box! :(
Do Chroma & Sony Mony follow the policy of 'part payment while booking & the rest on delivery'?

This is the reason why I hate samsung! The 40" C6900VR (Love the stand and the wireless remote) too was shortlisted with 40EX710, but due to the panel lottery thing, I slashed Samsung from my list.

Also, 40HX800 for 110k seems to be a good deal gaurav.

Satan & Adder, what do you have to say... Samsung 40" C6900VR, Sony 40 EX710 OR the 40" HX800? (LG slashed... someone else with an LG panel too told me about their harrowing experience with the after sales dept.)

My Requirements:

Not too interested in watching 3D TV but it's good to be future ready :)
I am not gonna connect my PC to the LCD, already have an expensive LCD for my monster PC :)
I usually use the TV for watching Star Movies/HBO/PIX movies (all genres).
Very minimal sports... no one is inclined to sports in my family.
I am a hard core gamer (I play FPS/RPG/Racing/strategy games on my PS3) & that is the reason why I require a low response time LCD with acceptable blur limits.

Well if you can afford the HX800,with all the freebies makes it good VFM.
its 2D picture is very good, has really deep blacks, one of the lowest response times.
You can also sell the 3D Blu ray player since you have a PS3.

Buddy HX800 is the way to go. The home theater (free) with this tv is really good and for PQ (2D and 3D) believe me daily I'm getting compliments from my friends and neighbors even from those who never praise anything they just say one thing ITS AWESOME. And last but not the least its USB drive plays DIVX HD too :)

Okay, I finally decided to go ahead with the purchase of the 40" EX710. The 40" HX800 was stunning & was getting freebies worth 40k (blueray player, 2 3D glasses & 9 blueray DVD titles)... too good to be true, but it was a good offer & perfectly legitimate! Usually when you get something at an unbelievable price, there has to be some catch or something wrong with the product.... but not in this case. Way to go Sony! I wish this offer was on a bigger size LED LCD of the same value w/o 3D. I'd have definitely made the purchase.

I looked over HX800's features & I don't think I'm gonna watch much of 3D television & my parents will probably get a headache watching those daily boring soap operas back-2-back in 3D (no offense to ppl who love them... lol). I haven't used the PS3's blueray player ever since I bought the PS3.. lol.

40" EX710 too has an SPVA panel unlike the other 2 EX710 sizes. So I guess it's a safe purchase & economical too. Probably I'll buy a good 5.1 home theater with tall speakers, with the 40k I'm saving :)

Btw, Sony gives a warranty of only 1 year on all it's LCD TVs... & 2 years extended warranty from croma at an additional cost of 5.5k... no extended warranty from Sony Mony though.
1. Is the croma 2 year ext. warranty worth the buy? Because Sony Mony (Mumbai) said that it's just a way to fleece customers into paying 5k more & we don't give any ext. warranty!
2. Is the 2 year croma extended warranty a replacement or just repair warranty?
3. Can anyone please tell me what is the dead pixel count that makes the defected product, eligible for replacement?
The only thing that scares me are the backlight bleed & dead pixel issues with these gadgets.

@superkarts: I was just gonna post that question. I don't know what panel is used in the 32" & 40" EX710. I am now downgrading to the 32" because I just measured my viewing distance and it is 6-7 feet only. Besides, the 32" is almost 30k cheaper. I was thinking I could use that extra dough for purchasing a BOSE 5.1 system. I already own the BOSE Companion 5 for my PC & they are simply fabulous! Gr8 sound! :)

Which panel is better... SPVA or ASV?
Anyone have an idea of the panel is used in 32" EX710? Buying the 40" seems useless for me because I have a small bedroom & the features in 32 & 40 inch are exactly the same... no difference!

Hi vg.gupta,That price is a shocker and am sure that is not the correct model,it must be 40EX600.I myself purchased it for 89,900.[KDL 40EX710]

Jigar congrats on your purchase,i also purchased SONY KDL40 EX710,excellent choice.

I purchased it from croma and they told me that 2 year extended warranty is for 2.7 k only, against 5 k what you quoted above.

[I also saved 20 grands against 46 inch KDLEX710,thought it would be worth spending it on an AV reciever, besides my watching distance is within 10 feets]

Hey, when did you buy the TV - the listed price on Sony Website for 40EX710 is Rs. 83,900 and Sony Brand shop is offering a 4K discount on it. So the price is Rs.79,900 (with out any negotiations). If you go to other shops (like Girias or Vasanth & Co), you can get closer to Rs.70K.

I bought a 46Ex710 2 days back for Rs.93,000 from Vasanth&Co Chennai.

I will suggest rather then going to Sony /LG go for Samsung (Sony shut operation in India last 3~4 yrs back and all TV are made in china now )
Samsung still impress me with quality and performance ---- under you budget you are entitle for even 47 inch 3 D TV .
make sense dont take other-way not offensive to Sony ..... my personal advice based on my setup where i installed Sony /LG /Panasonic and now 4th one Samsung 55 inch 3d TV :)

Hi Jigar - Congrats on your purchase... Can you throw some light on Samsung's Panel Lottery issue... What is this and how will this affect me if I go for a Samsung...

I am confused between Sony 3D LED 40HX800 and Panasonic 3D Plasma P42GT20D... Why plasma??? Because of the "true black" PQ... Not sure how true and how black is true black!

Let me know... Await for your response...
