Hi All,

I am confused over which 3D tv should I buy. My budget is Rs.80,000 - Rs.1,00,000.

I prefer 50'' or more as I believe only that screen size will give proper 3D effect (also I need full HD). This makes me to select a plasma tv so it will be within my budget. Which plasma would be better, Samsung or Panasonic. I found Samsung 5500 PN51F5500AF 3D Plasma 50.7 inch (128.77 cm) which is within my budget, but are Samsung plasma models good? Are there any specific problems you have heard about this model?

If I invest some more, I can get Panasonic ET TH-L50ET60D 3D LED 50 inch (127 cm), but its polarized 3D. Is it worth?

Or is it better to reduce the screen size to 47'' and buy a LED 3D tv instead of plasma. I am concerned about the lifetime and burnout problems in plasma. The 1st mentioned Samsung TV, I have 3 yrs of warranty. I hear a lot of people telling Panasonic is better in plasma, can you suggest a good Panasonic 3D tv available in India within my above said budget which satisfies my screen size.

I am planning to buy it next week, so I need your help very soon.

Regards,
Roy Vincent

@Roy... I think most of the samsung TVs are having active 3d. Panasonic and Sony have passive 3d. Please do some googling to find out pros & cons of active and passive 3d. Review says Panasonic is more VFM than samsung.

Panasonic is THE BEST in plasma tvs. Unfortunately they are stopping their plasma production from this december.

take a look at LG cinema 3d..
slightly expensive than ur budget..

but after using my two samsung 3d tvs..i found the 3d led amazing..
i was so impressed..

Panasonic is THE BEST in plasma tvs...............but Samsung is not far behind. Samsung also have some really good plasma's, the F8500 is their top of the line plasma and is on par with the VT50 but for a much lesser price. F5500 and F4900 are also very good plasma tv's. If you do want plasma I suggest to have a serious look at Samsung.

Many people prefer Plasma over LED for 3D, so its a very personal choice. LG uses passive 3D which is probably the easiest on the eyes compared to active 3D, but how much 3D are you really going to watch. I would not base my purchase only on 3D viewing.

You need to demo both and then decide..........plasma or LED / active 3D or passive 3D is your choice. The bright colors of LED gives me a headache after a while, so I would go with plasma but many prefer the sharpness and crispness of LED.

Samsung is doing tremendous research in plasma Tvs plus Panasonic is about to stop making plasma Tvs. Go with Samsung

I don't think anybody is spending much on R&D on plasma technology.
All the companies are behind oleds.
They want to make the oled manufacturing processes more productive.
Plasma R&D reached its zenith. Thanks to Panasonic ZT60 and VT60.

I agree, with Panasonic shutting shop on Plasma it does seem true. Samsung may continue to sell as some R&D is still going on for them. The 8500 is an example of the same. But for how long that is the question they may continue for couple of years more or may move out completely like Panasonic. Depends on how much are the sales and money they can make.

I think Samsung will try to surpass zt60 in blacks and PQ. Then it too will stop all R&D. Or it might even try to produce a 4k plasma.

yep that can happen, as they have tasted success with 8500 which is the flagship model, they may try to push the performance a notch up, so it may happen next year they may come out with even a better model.

Maybe Panasonic will sell its plasma technology and Samsung buys the same and they can build further on it. All speculations have to wait for CES 2014 to see what's in store for next year and the future of Plasma.

Interesting. In such a case I would like to believe that Samsung should sell ZT60 with its own brand name but the picture processing of Panasonic untampered.
I would love to buy such a Sammy Z9500.:D
