i am new to this forum and this is my first thread,
I have yamaha amplifier RXV359, i have connected the 5.1 Jamo speakers with it right now, the rear (surround speakers) are not so much powerfull which i need, Jamo Model is S406
i want to change the rear surround speakers with some powerfull speakers, i am having a hi-fi system of Sony model number is SS-RV55,
i dont know if the speakers are compatible and can be handled by the yamaha amplifier, please help me out
Thanks

What is the impedance of the sony speakers? Usually these ht speakers are of 4 ohms which may cause damage to the avr. If it is 6 or 8 ohms, you can use it.

Thanks for the quick reply
here i tell you the details i have of sony Speakers
Sony Speakers: The following measured at AC 120, 127, 220, 240 V 50/60 Hz
DIN power output (rated): 120+120 watts (6 ohms at 1 kHz, DIN)
Continuous RMS power output (reference): 150 + 150 watts (6 ohms at 1 kHz, 10% THD)

I dont know much about these technical things, and i also dont have the technical specification of the yamaha amplifier too, but i have the Indian Model or Asian Model
Thanks

Read out the specs behind your Sony speakers.

I had connected my sony hifi systems speakers as fronts to my yamaha 571 receiver till i got proper speakers. My sony speakers were 6 ohms so the yamaha receiver was compatible with them no issues.

Thanks

check your receivers compatible ohm capacity and if it is within the specified range then you can connect it. I did the same with my yamaha receiver, manual said that I can connect a speaker with 6 or 8 ohm and hence i used it for couple of months before I got my energy speakers. I did not use my sony hifi systems rear speakers as they were rated at 4 ohms. You can check your manual of the receiver. Whether you connect the 6 ohm speakers as fronts or rears does not make a diff on the receiver as far as I know.

Thanks

FM rishiguru is your 'goto'man as far as your query is concerned!

Laugh.

I am a poor guy, everybody knows that.

I hope to get some good speakers for my DSP-Z9 in the next 2 years. :)

You take things too seriously. I laughed coz just the day i read your post, i saw this thread & thought what a coincidence this is. As it is you are well experienced with the sony speakers pairing for quite a while hence thought you would be the right person to help the person needing help in this thread.

So help this person & thoda chill karo :)

Yeah I know, one needs to a half crazy baboon like me to pair dinky sony's with the DSP-Z9. But right now I am very constricted on budget and want to go for big guns with the speakers for my Z9.

It will take me a year to reach a budget of 1 lakh just for the front floorstanders, I wil think about the surrounds later.

Anyway, nice to have a chat with you. :)

Just go on and connect those 6 ohm sonys with your Yamaha.

No need to worry.
