Now that i have postponed my speaker purchase, am considering going back to some really good component isolation. In the past i used to have the SRA Craz rack which was world class. Presently i use the Rethm rack. This rack is good but not in Craz's class. Am now considering Minus-K BM 8 series both for my table and my tube amp. Have written to them. Lets see where this ends up. Prem,

One of the weakness of a EMT turntable is it's MM preamp, which I know is what you are using in your chain through a step up transformer. While the preamp is good and very well acknowledged, it is way out of time in terms of good quality solid state components used then. I know it has the EMT house sound, but I believe you can make a big difference to your chain by upgrading to a high quality MM/MC preamp in the chain to add to your Tondose. I know Pass Labs makes some fabulous preamps and they are ofcourse expensive. My 2 cents.

Cheers.

Hi Anilva

At this point i like the convenience of the built in phono stage. It has been modded to what is there in the 948. I wrote to a few experts. They feel its a very good phonostage. It can obviously be bettered. I will at some point consider a Dave Slagle/Jeffrey Jackson phonostage. Even they feel the EMT 948 phonostage is fairly decent. So will stick to what i have for a year or two.

Normally before i upgrade i like to max out the potential of my existing equipment. I know and have experienced what a Craz rack does. Its mind blowing. When the resonances are killed its a whole new experience. The only reason i let the Craz go is because it was a four shelf rack and i needed just a two shelf. In fact the big guys like Lamm and Tenor all swear by SRA. If Minus K does not work out, will probably go back to SRA. Its just that i wanted to try something different. The Minus K looks a serious product.
