sorry for the cheezy title guys, but I bet it got your attention :p

so I can't find a 50ST50D anywhere neither can I find a the GT version of the same, contacted all the dealers in the city the ASM the RSM the panny helpline
all say can't do anything till end of april / first week of may

So i have been thinking should I go for the 65ST50D
its almost 2l but its almost twice in screen area too
my room isn't huge or anything like that but according to me and THX standards
(
7.2 is the recommened viewing distance to get the full benefit of the resolution
i think about 10 feet it enough

i have a couple of things holding me back
1. it is such a huge investment how much life can I expect out of it?
1.a. how much warranty does panny offer
2. how fragile is it ? just in case in move to a different house / city
3. for this much money I can buy a good second hand car so is it really worth it?

your thoughts and opinions would be appreciated and would help in either taking the plunge or consoling myself that those grapes are sour :p

Thanks for your reply,

I spend too many hours at works. So at most 2 hours daily watching movies / series / gaming,
don't own a console right now but intend to buy a PS4 as soon as it is out in India, right now have a good PC rig which will be used for gaming.
but the weekend will be spent in front of the TV don't go out that much, I am in Jaipur so don't know anyone.

I also own an Onkyo 809 and wharfdale's obsidian 600 hcp

For gaming of any type- console or your gaming PC AVOID plasmas, you will definitely get image burn-in, better get an LED.

for gaming avoid plasma..
however a GT or ST is something different class which leds cannot offer(the picture)..

my personal opinion
get a pj man...
A class epson 8100 will come in 1.4 lakhs....100 inch huge gaming...

why a tv
jump to the next level...
cheers

Glad that you were able to get through to the RM so quickly.
There is definitely a problem in the way the distribution channel is working.

Pune has not received any stock and dealers and RM are both clueless where the stock has gone in the last 10 days after it landed at Chennai.

All stock for Mumbai has gone to a single dealer. There are many more brandshops and they have no new stock. On top of this, the solo dealer with stock is selling it at a 20% premium.
Perhaps there is a dealer - sales team nexus or I am reading too much into this.

Do note that 65" takes a lot of electricity too.

And yes, this one is not recommended for gaming at least for first 200 hours.

65" will be enjoyable at 12-15'. The question is, is 65ST50 available? You can look at Samsung plasmas too - the 64E8000 for example.

65inch can be enjoyed at less tha 10feet for sure. The farther you sit the smaller the TV looks. Panny Plasma has great picture quality so go for the 65inch ST50. The TV is not that brittle, but has to be handled carefully and carried in the original box, so never throw away the original box. Panny gave 3year warranty for my ST30 and I believe that it hasn't changed. Life of the TV is hard to predict, however you can check for any major issues related to this particular model in the forums.

My panny P50ST30 looks very small to me and my wife, and we prefer to watch it from a distance not more than 7 feet (the closer the better and bigger). Unlike the older SD Tvs, the HD tv's don't have visible pixels even from 4 feet. So 10feet is more than enough for a 65inch Tv.

I second Samsung 64E8000. I have seen it in not the most ideal environment - TV shop, and still came back impressed.

they aren't available as well..
neither 65ST nor the 64E8000

i'll either have to go down the projector path or wait till the new plasmas come out
A projector cannot replace TV for normal television viewing. A projector is best suited for Home Cinema.

64e8000 is still available. Atleast in delhi. Dad got one last week itself (about 170k I think).
