Hi,

My room is 15*12 probably and currently i am looking for a receiver. My factors for choosing are:-
1.budget price
2.Reliability(lesser issues and doesnt break down every few months or years)

My biggest concern is if i realy need 7.2?or if buying a 5.1 as of now is the biggest blunder considering future proofing blah blah.Since i didnt have an avr till date i dont know how

3.Denon stacks up against Yamaha quality wise
4.If i would go wrong to go for X1330w just because it gives 7.2?

I plan to buy the Taga V506 speakers.
Can the audiophile here please help me out?

I was earlier looking for rxv 581 but it seems too costly for me and i am confused if i am paying too much without needing that meny channels. So i have settled on either rxv 481 which comes for 40k and so does denonx1300w at 40k.

Hi sand87ch,

From your options - Denon 1300 vs RXV 481, Denon 1300 seems better option. On the other hand, RXV 581 is also a strong performer.
If you compare features then Denon 1300 seems more appropriate, however SQ of both are good.
As far as 5.1 or 7.x is concerned, only you can decide based on your preference. You need to first experience 5.1 and 7.1 setup, to understand if adding additional 2 more surrounds (5.1 + 2) is really required.
For your room size, 5.1 seems more than enough.

Along with suggestions from forum members, do audition as much as you can to understand your preference.

All the best

thing is i have heard that denons have too many issues regarding hdmi boards etc though i am not sure how true that is.and thats why i havent fixed denon as the option.
i may not be moving to a larger home anytime soon..not in the forseable future.but the future proofing aspect is the only reason i considered 7.2ch.also.if i cant or wont buy ceiling speakers anytime soon and my preference is music and movies and mainly tv as well ,is 581 going to only be a worthless money spend or will i experience.more depth in sound in my current setting if i purchase 2 more surrounds say in 2 yrs.
denon looks really appealing but since the warranty may not be there and also since the service centre is a 1 hr drive,i am not sure.added to that wud be the money for each repair.i heard yamaha runs like a tank compared to denon.but i am a newbie and sellers seldom tell the truth if one asks them.thats why i am stuck

I think you will have to look at denon x2300w and above, coz I have read from the other forums that the x1300w lacks energy to drive to FS.
If both music and movies is your priority, then you will have to look at Yamaha or Marantz AVRs.
I use a Yamaha AVR and must say I am more than satisfied for movie experience and music too.
Audition is the key, as sound is subjective.

+1 to Marantz...their Basic models to SR series are built to perform and last....hence expensive.....SQ is tops....experience is awesome....

You need to audition as much as you can and decide...if you cant audition, check if there are any members close to you so that you can hear Yamaha/Pioneer/Marantz/Harmon Kardon etc....You tube videos will help to an extent...

5.1 vs 7.x seems really a personal choice. Everyone's experience might be different but 5.1 satisfies the needs of movies. New things keep on getting introduced in the market but most of them only look attractive but not worthy for home users.
For example, ATMOS, I have auditioned ATMOS couple of times in dedicated HT setup but it was not making any difference for me really. Unless I was specially pointed, I was not even thinking that heights channels are even working. This is just my experience.

Regarding servicing, it is important as problems may occur with any electronic device and reason could be any. If you go through the forums, you will see faults getting raised any every brand product.

This is being your first experience, you should either get a product which covers manufacturer warranty or you can also go for pre-owned stuff (they are already in running condition and completely tested by owner, so should be OK).
Whatever brand you choose, just make sure that you have a service center available near you.

I have a 14 x 11 room.. Had 9.0 setup for sometime and 7.2 set-up now..

7.1/2 is atleast a must to enjoy Atmos / Dts x.

Since i didnt have an avr till date i dont know how 3.Denon stacks up against Yamaha quality wise 4.If i would go wrong to go for X1330w just because it gives 7.2?

If 40K is your budget and you can get 7.2 AVR, why settle for 5.1 AVR ?

There are many FM who own the Taga 5.0 speaker package..Have heard one of them too with Pioneer VSX 1131. They are good..

the best option would be for you to demo both denon and yamaha.. need not be the exact same models that you have shortlisted.. but at least the closest model possible. but ensure that you find a place where you can demo both these av receivers side by side with the same speaker set up, and the same movie scene / song. there are many factors that influence the final sound that we hear, and you would be able to have a better judgement only when you audition both these av receivers in the same place, one after the other; with everything else remaining the same.
