To me its like comparing 25k product with 50K+
I have heard x1200 & x2200 many times in different speaker configuration, to me x2200 sounded more punchy than x1200. Difference is so visible if you play a song in both with similar speakers/setup, you will jump to x2200 if your budget allows you.
But if you are not looking for specifically 7.1, then you can look at Marantz and Pioneer as well.
Pioneer 830 (5.2 ch) is another AVR which contains almost every feature which normally comes in High End AVRs. Audition it if you can to experience.
