Hey everyone!
I recently built a DIY Now Playing Display using a Raspberry Pi, and I thought I’d share the details on how it works with Roon and Spotify. The result is a sleek, functional display that shows what's currently playing on your music services, with some extra features like a standby screen when no music is playing.
The Spotify integration shows what's playing across any device using the same account—whether it's from Alexa, my phone, or tablet. As for Roon, it displays what's playing on the specific zones I've set up so far including HQplayer. (HQplayer integration was a bit tricky)
When Spotify is playing, the display shows the album and song name. When paused, it switches to a standby screen displaying the time, date, and weather. The same applies to Roon—when music is playing, it shows the current Roon track with lyrics if available and when paused, it switches to standby screen.
Here’s how the screen looks:
Suggestions and ideas to improve this are welcomed.
