Often a simple tweak can give you exponential results. I have been running 5.1 setup on my puny Yamaha HTR 1840. Due to space constraints, the rear surrounds couldn't be place near ear level. The closest I can get was 6ft from floor, while my ear level is around 40". The speakers have 3" drivers, which restricts how loud they can go. After looking for speaker stands with tilt function, I came to realisation that it's not with the effort for me.
Although recently, there were some furniture work that was happening. So I asked my carpenter to make me a design which I thought willl be ideal for mounting my surrounds.
The design is pretty simple. The only purpose it serves is to Provide a ~30% slant, and strong enough to support 5-7 kgs of weight. It came out perfectly. These are simple 19mm century ply.
There is now day and night difference in the overall experience. The soundstage feels more immersive. Now the itch has started to upgrade my AVR and surrounds for a better experience.
I hope this basic and simple design will be of help to some.
