DLNA feature TVs

EthenHunt has provided the link.

In absolute layman's terms, DLNA allows sharing/listening/viewing of Audio and Video files over a wired or wireless network.

DLNA stands for Digital Living Network Alliance, and is basically a network of companies that make digital media devices. It basically commits them to make products that are easy to interlink, for example, a Sony BluRay player will easily work with LG Smart TV. Of all the big companies, only Apple is not a member of DLNA, and as such its devices are almost impossible to interoperate with others.

It has 3 parts.
Server that stores/ hosts content - can run on your laptop, or NAS or even on a samsung phone (all share).

Client - that plays content like music/ movies. TV will be the client. Or there can be software clients on phones, laptops, htpc etc. Here formats a client can play can be limited. For that your server can do real time transcoding.

Remote - helps in selecting what content to play, pause etc. This can be a third device, like your phone.
