External HD Antenna - will this work in India ??

Wow...this Antenna seems to be an interesting gadget !! Hope it works in India.
I'll definitely buy it, if it really works.
Could anybody advise please ?

@technobhatt - Saw your query and answers on worldofdth.com. Quite an informative thread.

[I could have posted the link, but its your effort, so I though you should take the credit :) ]

Anyhow, from whatever I've gathered, I guess its useless in India right now. Still, its something that we should know.

Thanks 'ranojoy'. It was you, who prompted me to take an interest in it and I just tried to gather information from some DTH satellite experts.
Here is the link:
Question:: Is HD terrestrial transmission available in India?

The summary is that, as of now Digital Terrestrial transmission is not available in India, so this antenna is of no use.
Also, I checked one more thing. This antenna requires a connector same as we have in our DTH STBs to receive digital signals.
This kind of connector (RF connector) is not available in TVs supplied in India.
We have only Analogue connector. That old cable TV female in-connector !!
So, even if signals are available, we may require some upgrade in TVs or need a DVB-T receiver satellite box.

This antenna is next to worthless. It will only work very close to transmitters, and then with less effectiveness than our old friend the rabbit ears. Don't waste your money.

There is really no such thing as a HD antenna. The antenna has no idea of the nature of the signal it receives. With the shift to HDTV many marketing loud speakers have tried hard to convince people they need a new antenna. Most of the worlds citizens need an outdoor antenna to receive quality signals from terrestrial broadcasters.

Some new TV sets have "World 17 system" tuners, but they are most of the Analogue Systems:

Tuning System PLL synthesizer 100-position auto-search tuner
CATV Compatibility Hyper-band
Broadcast Stereo Reception
NICAM -B
NICAM -G
NICAM - I
NICAM -German (A2)
Teletext Reception 1000P Level 2.5, FASTEXT/LIST
TV Tuner Receiving System:
PAL -B/G/H, PAL -B/G , PAL -I , PAL -D/K, SECAM -B/G , SECAM -D/K, SECAM -L/L', SECAM -L
AV-NTSC: PAL-525/60
AV-NTSC: NTSC
AV-NTSC: M-NTSC

Most will require a DVB-T set top box for over the air HD. This assumes broadcasters are forced to transmit digital. With such a small number of receivers, they are not willing to start HD broadcasts. Most of the shows they produce are SD anyhow.

If you need an antenna, it usually best to get it in the local market, as they will know what works.
