Hello all, I wanted suggestion on upgrading my speaker system. I have been using Onkyo 304E AV receiver with 5.1 speakers from Onkyo itself. The output of AV is 65W/Channel. I wanted to use better speakers for listening to music. Can I add some good floor standing speakers like Onkyo SKF-4800 or anyother suggestion. My budget for speaker is Rs 50,000. Whether 65 w receiver will be compatible with 130w speakers. Pl guide me. Thanks

Hey Buddy,

Have you tried Bose speakers? In this budget I'd suggest you to look at Bose, Sharp and Panasonic as well.

KEF Q500 is good. It would cost a little above 50K,.. say around Rs. 56,000. It's worth...

Be little careful before pairing Onkyo with Kef. Both are on the brighter side and may sound harsh. Kef is a good speaker and I own Kef iQ7 FS. However, I do have some issue with mine as it lacks low end punch. Kef scores well in mid range and highs can be little harsh if not paired well.

you want to pair kef iq 500 with an entry level onkyo amp ?
youre never gonna make the best out of this speaker

Whether adding speakers like kef q500 will improve the audio or its not going to be any significant improvement. In that case I need to upgrade AV as well. Which one would you suggest in mid segment which goes well with above speaker. Thanks

May be you could look at getting a dedicated integrated stereo amp and a pair of good bookshelves to start with. Later you can add a powerful power amp to the setup and go for a powerful FS. You can still use your integrated amp as a pre amp.

What comes to my mind is

1. Marantz PM6004 - Marantz PM6004 Integrated Amplifier

OR

Yamaha A-S500 - A-S500 - Integrated Amplifiers - Yamaha - India

2. Kef Q300 BS - Profx - Advanced Audio Solutions

The total cost is going to be around 60K and I think the above combo is worth an audition.

Above amps doesn't have a pre out to connect a power amp later on. If you are planning to get more powerful FS later, then you may want to spent a little more and go for an integrated amp that has pre out.

You will be amazed to know how better a dedicated stereo amp sounds compared to an AVR when it comes to 2 channel stereo playback :).

check specs carefully and then buy fs...
imho carry your avr and listen to some speskers..bs is safe..
however in low volume speakers with 87db effi is okay..
you can combine wharfe as its pretty warm..

and yes for dedicated music set up..you need a stereo amp and 2 speakers..this avr is not good..

KEFQ500 sounds good with a Denon HT Receiver, especially for movies... no complaints with music either, but, Im going for a Adcam Amp mostly, else a better Amp (you may suggest).

Power handling is secondary....Look for a speaker which has higher efficiency..Probably >=90db should do....

For a FS, your receiver looks under powered....Better look for a BS speaker
