Anyone know any free or opensource 3D Bluray Playing software for pc. Also instructions on making it region free would be appreciated.

Free is tough. Sony's licensing options insist they get paid for the files to be played too.

CyberLink PowerDVD is what I use but its paid software.

Other option is to rip and convert into .mkv format.

I believe XMBC has a plugin for playing Blu-ray content I don't use XMBC. Perhaps those using XMBC on this forum will chip in if that's true.

For making region free... I use AnyDVD HD but have not come across anything for free that worked 100%.

"Bino" is superb free 3D player for PC. Its open source project.
The good thing of this software is you can convert HSBS/SBS formats to High Quality Anaglyph.
Used it to open downloaded HSBS videos,
Check if it opens blurays.

The 3D bluray is frame packed. You cannot rip it as frame packed at the moment. You will have to convert it to SBS/TNB but its like half resolution. Good thing is it can be played with any Bluray player without problem.

Now, to save frame packed, you will have to rip to ISO. XBMC can play regular ISO bluray files, but it cannot play 3D iso images at the moment.

XBMC users use third party players like tmt5 or powerdvd11 for 3D and bluray playback.

New KMPlayer has 3D support and it is a free software. It can convert 2D to 3D. I'm not sure whether it can play blu-rays.

For region hack, use AnyDVD HD.

I already use powerdvd 12 but wanted a more lightweight and free alternative to play blurays :( .

Ripping it is an option but its cumbersome and i can as well download a rip from the net and the whole point of buying a bluray would become nullified.

i konw, powerdvd sucks! why don't you try totalmedia?? I have used it for almost 2 years.it never had any problem?it plays blu ray on pc smoothly?when i bought it, to my surprise, it can change region code, thus i'm never worried about relaxing myself when on business. It's an easy to use and professional blu ray player software for windows? including Windows 8. of course, it fully integrates with Windows Media Center too. maybe you should try. believe me, it is satisfying. beyond your surprise, it's also a 3d video player.

^^ Potplayer is very good. Even better than kmplayer. Setting bitstream is very easy in potplayer. I was not aware that there is a 3D version also. gonna try it.

XBMC user interface can be modified to suite SBS or OU 3D files. The interface and subtitles can be automatically converted to the necessary format (SBS/3D). This is very useful when watching 3D movies as the interface will not look stretched. Also no need to convert subtitles to 3D. I have compiled a version with automatic gui switch. If someone wants to try it then I will upload it. For compiling your own version see https://github.com/elupus/xbmc/tree/3d

The options were already in the latest Potplayer, but not easily accessible like KMPlayer. that is why it went unnoticed. These players I use as default player for quick playback only. Main player is XBMC.
