Hi to all,

I got a Garrard Zero 100 S ( I will post pics later). It is really unique in the sense that it has a lever attached to the tone arm which guides the tracking angle of the cartridge as the tone arm moves towards the centre. In other words, it is a sort of parallel tracking system now being used by the most expensive TT Pythagoras TT with Thales tonearm. It needs servicing and I will report how it performs. I also got a kenwood KD-770B TT which appears to be an excellent TT. Very silent motor and very musical even with a entry level AT cartridge. With these two TTs, my collection of TTs has crossed 40!

You are really a passionate person with deep love for turntables and music. You deserve to be a mentor in your city/locality. Hope to visit your house one day...

Congratulations on the buy. Hopefully you will get many hours of listening pleasure.

Does it sound like the current Garrard's?

Hi,I also have a Zero 100 S , which also needs servicing. I would be most interested in knowing how and where you got your's serviced and how it performs.I would like to revive mine too,if possible.Cheers

Good old Garrards...most of them are built like tanks...my dad used to own an SP25mk1 which was maintained in immaculate condition. After he passed on, we decided to sell off all his stuff. One of our forum members (was an absolute pleasure dealing with him) purchased this turntable from me. We donated the returns from the sale of the equipment to charity.

Hi to all,
I just got my Garrard zero 100 fully serviced by a friend and it sounds fantastic. After some hours of playing, I am sure it will give real competition to some of my other leading TTs like Garrard 301.AR XA,Denon DP-60L,Technics SL-1200 and Thorens players. Sanjay , I can organise to get it serviced for you if you can send it to Kottayam.Pl pm me. For that matter, any forum memners wants any vintage players serviced, please contact me with details of the players and it's condition. I can see if my friend can service it . I welcome any member to visit me. I have a fairly decent music rooms with full acoustic damping etc with a collection of over 3000 records(English). Hey, we could even try to organize a Vinyl lovers conference sometime in the future.

This is one my favorite pieces. The Zero means zero tracking error. The pantograph arm pivots the cartridge holder to eliminate phase errors unavoidable on conventional tone arms. A 1Khz tone ET (Electrical Transcription is a 1940's term for a test recording.) plays perfectly in phase with a Zero 100.

The motor is a synchronous type, meaning the speed of the motor is unaffected by changes in mains voltage. The frequency of the mains controls the final speed of the motor. As the mains frequency is stable in many parts of the world, this system was perfect for 1970's equipment. The table is driven by a belt and there is a two step shaft on the motor to make the speed change between 33 and 45 rpm. In front of the platter is a window with a mirror allowing one to see the bottom of the platter. There are lines printed on the platter. They are illuminated by a neon lamp. The lamp turns on and off at the line frequency. This creates a strobe effect in the printed lines. There is a speed adjust knob you turn until the printed lines stand still. When they do, the record will have perfect pitch.

The tone arm can track as low as half a gram, and has adjustable anti-skating magnets.

There is a lot of what I call "monkey motion" to change records automatically, but no serious collector allows his vinyl standing still to drop 75mm onto a rotating record below.

The only service items are cleaning and lubrication. The belt is still available. I use MSO2 grease on the platter sleeve bearing, and lubriplate (affectionately called "baby goo" in sound shops.) for everything else.

Most of us have a shirt pocket music player that can hold 5000 record albums (or one telephone message from your mother-in-law) but there is still something elegant and satisfying about listening to vinyl at home.

Ruebensm & stevieboy,

The plinth is very ordinary on Garrard Zero 100. Fortunately, there is hardly any rumble noise and the tracking is near perfect. I am seriously thinking of a new plinth for it. I must get over the strain of making the plinth for Garrard 301 . BTW, 301 is sounding very neutral and pleasing with Goldring 1006
