Hi,
Got the zotac mag dual core atom ion to be used as a dedicated HTPC.

Was earlier using a core2duo machine with an ATI radeon card as both an HTPC and an workstation. Now I had to move the machine away from my HT, so got this new zotac mag.

I was initially planning to by the ACER REVO 3610 which is a similar configuration and quite famous in the HTPC world. It was quoted for Rs.19000 which comes with additional wireless keyboard mouse and WIN7 Home premium pre-loaded which the zotac mag does not have. However, there was no stock with ACER dealers and that's why go the ZOTAC mag. ZOTAC mag put me back by Rs.17000 and got it from supreme computers who are the dealers of ZOTAC mag production in south india.

I have this box unopened as of now. Will install ubuntu + XMBC and let you know how it goes

Cheers

Is there anything available in this form factor with a cd/dvd drive as well? I am looking for a small form factor bed-side source that I can use with my headphones. Mac mini looks cool but expensive.

Before we dive into the performance benchmarks, I had to come up with a reasonable set of tests to highlight the main selling points of such a system. The ION platform can utilize an Atom CPU along with the GeForce 9400 IGP on the ION chipset to display full HD content, while keeping power consumption to a mininum. Other tasks like browsing and office work would be nothing new for small form factor PCs as that has been possible with older mini-ITX generations already.

Atom, without the ION, is useless in serving HD video content. The Atom+ION combo is what does the magic in the acer revo, zotac mag and other net-tops which work brilliantly as an HTPC
