Google Maps should serve your purpose since you have data connectivity on the go.
I assume you already have a standalone GPS unit paired with the laptop or your laptop has built-in GPS radio (not aware whether such a thing exists or not).

Nope , nothing such is paired/installed yet...

i was looking for a software to install which will serve me same way the GPS will do..

For GPS to be accurate the device should be able to communicate with the GPS satellite. AFIK this option is not available in Lap tops.

The Ipad , high end Smart phones have this option

Thank you friends for your replies

Looks like its a wise idea to buy a standalone gps device like Gramin , Map my india etc ... looking at the Hazel

will look for a used Gps seller in Bangalore location

I discarded my Garmin after I got a smart phone Android based with google maps.

I found google maps to be better then Garmin maps.

Though Google maps is a good idea since you dont have to download the maps and it is always updated. But it requires data connectivity due to which battery drains faster. Not a problem if you are travelling in a car and have car charger.
But sometimes it may happen that you are visiting a remote location with very weak or no network. In such situation offline maps like Sygic etc are useful. Map My India is now available very cheap (or free, pl check on Google play) and you can have that too as a fallback option.

Google now has an option to download maps for later use. However you would still require a data connection to find directions.

That is the one problem I have with Google Maps. The old Nokia Maps (on my C6-01) would search for directions offline. With Google, you need a working data connection for searching for directions even on maps that you've cached.
