Saw some really sweet deals on Sony products in Blr Intl Airport's duty free section. These come with India warranty as well as free installation.

So now we dont have to ask anyone to lug it from the US or other countries and just buy it at the arrival counter.

The prices of PS2 and PS3 are 105 USD and 350 USD respectively which is a decent discount over the India prices and a very slight premium on US prices.

The TV prices are captured in the image below:

how to get them duty free from airport to my house? PS3 - is it the new slim version? Sounds a great deal. Even the tvs seem to have great price!

Very decent discount... For some items it is very good... Just taken a reference with ebay.in prices.... somebody can correct this with right figure in retail shops.

22 EX 300 - $312(Rs.14,040) - Indian Price : 18,000
32 BX 300 - $580(RS.26,100)-Indian Price : 28,000
32 EX 300- $602 (Rs.27,090)-Indian Price : 33,400
32 EX-400- $709( Rs.31,905)-Indian Price :40,995
40 BX-400- $968(Rs.43,560)-Indian Price :58,500
40 EX-400- $1032(Rs.46,440)-Indian Price :61,400
40 NX-500- $1075(Rs.48,375)-Indian Price :64,900
40 EX-500- $1161 (Rs.52,245)-Indian Price :71,199

Making an intl. trip or asking someone coming from abroad to buy it would be the two options I can think of.

The PS3 was the slim version.

So if I understand right you can buy 1 of these TV's prior to Customs and then walk out of customs without paying duty. I thought the duty free limit was Rs25,000, so how does one buy - lets say - a $1500 item and walk out without paying duty.
Do let me know, bcoz this is an amazing deal on tVS.
cheers
Sid

I suppose the only way to manage the higher limit is to have three adults make the purchase. The limit is 25000 or around 550 USD per person at current exchange rates. So book your family to Sri Lanka and on the way back buy a TV :)

Ithink it should be available in ALL intl airports?
I can atleast confirm it is available in Hyderabad airport.

Not only Sony but Samsung and LG too. But from what I have seen, Sony has the most difference in Airport vs Retail shop prices. For instance, LG has only 3-4k savings which you can easily live without.

I am not sure of all duty frees in India. The Blr and Hyd duty free shops are run by Nuance-Shoppers stop consortium but Delhi is Alpha duty free. So the schemes at Blr and Hyd would be similar but the others would need to confirmed by ppl in the resp. cities.

Few months back I bought(for relatives) a Sony 32V500 LCD there in bglr airport.
The basic price was around 33-34k(after dollar to rupee conversion. Mind here, they use a slightly premium rate, about 1-1.5rs more that actual conversion rate) On top of that i paid about 4k as duty (25k was duty free). so total came around 38k (retail price was around 42k that time).

Airport is a better place to buy sony (if someone is contemplating btw sony and samsung/LG/panasonic etc in LCD's and if PRICE is the only criteria thats bothering with sony, then airport is the place for sony.)

And I have already made up my mind if I am buying a sony (NX series) then it will be at airport. Otherwise plasmas from Pana at retail shops :)

While departing its at the Sound and Vision store to your left after finishing immigration.

While arriving its next to the baggage claim ( the only duty free) and to your left corner you will see the Sony's displayed.

@sud98
Thanks for your reply!

Since its inside the building, is it possible to just visit the shop w/o traveling. According to my knowledge one can enter inside only with a ticket, correct me if i am wrong.

These shops are in the international airport and after immigration so you need an international ticket and valid visa and practically you can do it only on your way back so you will have to come back from a foreign country.

Just saw the new prices for Sony at Blr airport, so thought it might be useful to share

Sony Televisions -

KLV 32NX500 USD 666
KLV 40NX500 USD 973
KLV 32EX500 USD 665
KLV 40EX400 USD 822
KLV 46EX400 USD 1146
KLV 32EX300 USD 519
KLV 40BX400 USD 778
KLV 32BX300 USD 476

Current conversion 1 USD - 45 INR

Great prices.. However please keep in mind that it won't be straight 1USD=INR45. You'll have to pay by your Indian debit/credit card and there will be conversion charges from your bank. So effectively it will be around INR 46.5 per USD.

Still good price.
