Hi,

I was having a crazy idea of using 3 center channel speaker boxes, 1 each for Left, Center and Right channels. This way, I get the perfect tonal match between my Left, Center and Right channels. Then will use the dipole speakers from the same company and version for surrounds. This setup is ONLY for movies. I got this idea by looking at the THX spec speakers. All the THX spec speaker systems I looked at have the same speaker boxes for Left, Center and Right channel.

Has any one thought about this / used this combination for home theater.

I also heard that a true 3-way speaker system is preferred for Left/Center/Right than a 2-way speaker system. Any comments on the above statement?

Any comments welcome :).

Yes you are perfectly right. You can achieve great tonal balance. To be more precise I had Jamo D7 THX certified speaker package for the LCR and D6 bipole speaker package for my surround and back.

The timber matching and the tonal balance was good, Even in my present set up I had B&W 804 for LR with HTM61 for the center and I observed the center channel voice was very lean / thin and does not match that of the LR hence upgraded to HTM3S which is similar to that of 804 then the magic worked.

So you can go ahead and do it. In fact one of our forum member has got Two pairs of System Audio center channel speakers SA 210 and SA 70 which he wants to give away for a very nominal cost. In case you are interested you can PM me I will give his contact to you.
