Headphone amplifier.

Please go thru my system from my signature. Is it possible to accomodate headphones into my system. My preamp has headphones out in the front panel. Do I need a headphone amplifier.

Dont have much knowledge on the headphones. May be a used one I can pickup from US market. Not too sure about the budget.

I will probably targeting seinheiser or some good brand in that range.

OK. Head straight to head-fi and browse around a bit. You will be able to get a general idea of the type of headphones that might interest you. It will be a good idea to have an aprx budget in mind. You can always find a 'best' in any price range!

PS: How's the Havana working out for you, tried any other tubes?

Good to have an amp always, but if the headphone really requires it can only be told by looking at the impedance after you decide.

I think he's referring to the dedicated headphone buffer section that's part of the sound card...

The xonar stx has a dedicated headphone driver circuit based on the TI TPA6120 chip. Maybe he's referring to that.

PS: How's the Havana working out for you, tried any other tubes?

If I am allowed to say few words on Havana DAC, we did audition his gear with and without Havana between S4s and ra06 amp and speakers bi-wired (I think). With Havana in the chain, guitar and other strings were sounding more polished and smooth and without Havana in the chain the sharpness of guitar was transparent. But we both didn't find a zameen asmaan ka difference between SBT's and Havana DACs. Probably amps like Mcintosh, bryston or accuphase might open up the Havana DAC. Again such "Amps" in the chain may single out DAC as a redundant..
