Friends ,

First of all, apology for starting a new thread as similar threads already exists. But most of those belong to pretty older dates especially the one which fits into my criteria. So please take a little bit of pain once again and let me allow to count on you .

1.Budget :- Around 10k
2.Dedicated
3.Open Ended, over the year
4.Should have separate length wire fitting capability
5.Bass Heavy with good isolation
6.Will be used main in Computer and late night TV viewing .
7. Can go for wireless if there is something good. Recently heard Sennheiser RS110 and 120 but both of those disappointed me to a great extent.

Thats all guys . Thanks in advance

Sanju

I am no audiophile so take other replies more seriously!

Having said that, I was also searching for a decent set of open ended cans last month. After much research I nailed down the Audio Technica AD700. Its great for gaming, has awesome soundstage but lacks the bass which was not a deal breaker for me. I found a pretty good deal at bitfang.com (6700/-)which seems like a shady site. I ordered it but later they came back saying that AD 700 is out of stock and they can give me AD 500 instead. I said "heck no" and asked for a refund. Unfortunately I couldn't find it at any other store.

So I went for the Sennheiser HD 598 and I don't regret it. Although I had to spend 5k more ( 12400/-) I got exactly what I was looking for. These cans are awesome for gaming. Are very very comfortable and produce sound that I admire and adore like my new wife. I can now hear tunes that I had missed before despite having decent headphones. The sound stage is unbelievable. Its like each instrument has its own place inside the headphones. It even looks beautiful!

"Bass heavy" means you are not looking for "neutral" studio-monitors. Therefore, likes of Shure SHR-440 and many Senns, Grados, Koss', M-Audios are straight away eliminated. Have a look at models from Dr.Dre ("Beats" & "Monster Beats" particularly) and Skull Candy.

I think you should try auditioning Audio-Technica ATH-M50. This one is one of the best studio monitors you can get under 8K.
Being a monitor and having neutral sound characteristics, I still never complained about the bass.

Thanks for all the replies friends. Finally decided for ATH M50 but the issue is I am unable to find out a seller in India. Bajaao.com is asking for around 15k and neither Flipcart nor Pristine Note have this in stock and they are not providing me any assurance that they can replenish in next one month or so.

So before going for Amazon-Borderlinx combination or something like that, would like to request you to let me know if you are aware of any other source with a reasonable price within India. I dont think 15k is too justified for M50.

Congratulations Sanju on your decision to buy the ATH.

I hope you have budgeted to buy a decent headphone amplifier also. If not, please do so because it will help you exploit these cans even better. If you are looking out for headphone amplifiers, the FIIO amplifiers are a good place to start
