Hi,

Planning to buy headphones or earphones. Looking for suggestions on which brand I should go for.

My Budget is ~5k. I have a friend also travelling from US.

Planning to get it from US, if its worth it. In a dilemma if there is really a need to purchase from US or If we get them in India.

Also not clear if i should go for headphones or earphones.

Please help!

Thanks,
Sudheer

If you will use it on the move then my vote goes for earphones. Suggest you to try Sony XBA1 or Klipsch S4. Both are under your budget and have awesome sound quality

Recent blind-testing on headphones shows that listeners preferred the flattest, smoothest, most neutral sound (not boosted bass, like Dr. Dre's Beats headpones). You can read about it here.

Also check out the Fostex T50RP headphone reviews, if you want to foray into Orthodynamics. These will not sound like the consumer bass heavy headphones but presents a very flat sounding presentation with good sound-stage and a very dark background.
I had a pair before I upgraded to a HifiMan HE400 and then to a Sennheiser HD600, but I will anyday recommend the Fostexs to anyone wanting to experiment with a different sound.

+1 to spirovious ..... just bought ATH M50 from Pristine Note 3 days back and its just amazing closed back.... clear sound stage with a tight bass ...... btw .... if you need smoothness with more clear mid .... can try Senn 598 though its a bit above from your budget but as you can get it from US, you can try this....

For some more reviews can try this

Hi,

If you are very strict on budget then I have following suggestions:
In Ear (great portability) - go for S4 or S4I (dont know latest price but should be around Rs 4000
Around Ear - Audio Technica T500 or M35 (you will need an amp to drive M35 though) Both are below / around Rs5000

If you can stretch a budget little bit just go for M50. Last I checked the price in US was around USD 110.

All the best !

Klipsch Image S4 has too powerful and boomy bass with a slightly thin mid-range with slightly harsh and sibilant treble and average clarity. In one word, not good for it's asking price which is 5k+. I recommend you VSonic GR02 Bass Edition.

Hi, I recently got bose mie2i from shopclues for just 1500/- and was very surprised to see that they fared far better than the sennheisers I got.the midrange and sound stage is fantastic, i find the sennheisers bass heavy and not so enjoyable now. And they me cost 4k then.

Just to clarify I primarily bought them for calls so did not research much but just bought for the brand. I am listening to my fav tracks from my cowon o2 all over again, such smooth and life like sound, I am impressed. Reviewers compare it with the S4s so you may consider them as well.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
