about me,i am no guru but would be looking for lots of help around.ill start with the very basic.i want a new home theatre.i had been looking out for the sony ht-m5 because i thought its big and heavy looks make it the best thing.but i discovered i was wrong.what i am looking for is a good ht both for movies and music.my source for movies till now is pc downloads.so i would request fellow members to help me build my ht.my budget would be 40k.and i would look for avr+towers+sw+rear speakers.
thanks in advance friends

Welcome to HFV mate.

I don't want to discourage you but looking at the budget I could recommend you to go for HTIBs (Home Theater In a Box). A pair of decent (and probably cheaper) towers might cost you 40k or more. And a good subwoofer might cost you 30k+.
So rather going for size, you can opt for HTIBs only which are tested well appreciated everywhere. This will come equipped with 5 speakers+1 sub+1 AVR.

All the best.

If you are not planning for any future upgrdation then go for HTiB from either Onkyo or Yamaha. But remember HTiBs are strictly for movies, they can not do justice to music.
Also look another option is to buy your HT system slowly, piece meal. Get a decent AVR like Yamaha 373 then go for 2 good bookshelves, later you can add surrounds, centre channel and subwoofer. But this option will increase your budget by atleast 15k. The result will be rewarding.

But if you can increase your budget a little the a Yamaha 373 + Boston Acoustics Soundware XS 5.1 will be good HT system in this budget. (link : Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS 5.1) Even if you pair it with Marantz 1504 the price comes to 51 k. Only 10k more than your budget.

But first I always advice you to take time to demo the speakers and see if you like the sound.

thanks alot for the warm reception and replies.going by the experience of the members i would try and build on my ht.which would begin with avr+towers..thanks for the help and would need alot more of that in future
