Hi, forummers,

I'm a lp record enthusiast living in Singapore.
Listen to both Tamil and English lps.
Nice to read so many interesting bits on Illayaraja. Have quite a decent stash of the maestro's works.
Looking forward to read more stuff about the maestro and if perhaps chime in on my recommendations on some of the better recorded stuff on the LP format.
As I started my collection from 1990, have about prolly 5000 LPs, mostly English.

Cheers

5k LPs? Forum should introduce itself to you :D.

Welcome to the forum, update us about your musical journey and the components you have been using. Thanks

Hi - welcome to the forum. I would love to see your storage solution for 5k LPs! I struggle with less than a 10th of what you have
Do post pictures of your setup as well :)

Hi, thanks for the warm welcome. I'm a bit disorganized myself. Using old teak shelving unit and IKEA racks to store my LPs. Here are some pix of my rig room.
Cheers :)

Hi,
I started collecting in 1990 when I was a teenager and built my collection bit by bit. 30 years worth so no biggie. The 90s were the best to collect records because many collectors were dumping them in hordes in favour of CDs. With whatever little pocket money I had I splurged on records at garage sales.
Pre internet I used to also mail order from advertisements in Goldmine and Record Collector magazines. God, I miss those days. Some of my boxes (in my pix) are from that era. Then came eBay and discogs.....made record buying much easier but it removed the excitement of going to garage sales. Listen to almost all genres except classical. Bulk of them are English, about 500 (LPs and EPs) would be Tamil....mainly raja's 70s and 80s stuff. I love Queen, Beatles, MJ, Prince, Bee Gees, Floyd, Hendrix just to name a few. I love collecting 12" singles. Most of the 12 inches are awesome sounding.
Cheers

Awesome! I love how you've repurposed wardrobes for vinyl storage - you have a very generous family :D
Do share more details of your rig. It looks really neat and organized.
Do you frequent Hear Records? That's become a pilgrimage spot for me in Singapore!

Wifey was generous enough to give me one room for my junk. I had to place IKEA racks into the full size wardrobe to make it purposeful. Been to Hear records prolly twice or thrice. Memory Lane at the Adelphi (audiophile Mecca in SG) is where I go to sometimes. I buy mostly from eBay these days but then have slowed down these days. Do let me know on Ur next trip here. Be keen to meet up.
Btw, TT is Clearaudio Performance DC, Amp is Kinki Studio, Speakers are Buchardt S400. Phono Amp is Graham Slee Accession.

Hurray for your wife! :D
Yes I've been to Adelphi too - exhilarating and depressing experience at the same time when you find the gear of your dreams and know you can't carry anything back home
That ClearAudio TT is a beauty. Which cart are you using?
Will definitely get in touch next time I'm in Singapore

Welcome to the forum. My wife and I too have a collection of LPs and cassettes which we are trying to sort out, now that I have retired from a service in which transfers, the farther the better, is the norm.

We also buy classic audio equipment when something worth listening to, turns up. We plan to be in Singapore for a week, later this year. Can you suggest places where we can look for classic audio and photographic equipment?

Hi Miroflex,

You can try Adelphi (City Hall station) for hifi stuff and Cathay photo for photography eqpt. With the MRT (metro), going places is not an issue. Do let me know if u require more info.
Cheers

Hi rajapaarvai,

Thank you very much for your advice. I will also do a google search.

My wife and I will be staying in London for the whole of May 2020, mainly for sightseeing and shopping, as well as as restoring a 1939 Rudge Special four-valve 500 cc motorcycle engine. Spare and expertise for this are best available in the UK. I am planning to use this engine for building a Rudge Velocette Special motorcycle using the frame and running gear from a Velocette Venom. I will need all the luck in the world to do this. All expressions of goodwill and advice from forum members are welcome.

I was able to collect a lot of photographic and electronic equipment while living in the UK in 1991 and 1992. I may not be do so this time for want of funds, which will go towards expenditure on the activities mentioned earlier. I may even have to part with some of my precious equipment, lovingly collected and carefully kept and used.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
