Hi everyone ,
I am Naveen & new entrant or nausikhiya in record players.
Heres some info about my record expriences.
The sight of gramophones always enchanted me so first bought one from Moradabad( the new ones that are exported) & tried playing some records bought from Meena bazaar Delhi. I might have actually destroyed those records, cant remember as the neddle was pretty hard on record, dont remember.
That player is now defunct.
Fortunately i got some 50 HMV records ( 45 rpm low Diameter & some big ones but vinyl ). I asked Shah music guy when i went there about players he said that a turntable can play all types of records even the pre vinyl ones. I was impressed with ease of turntables, I was a student then & could not purchase.
Now i have a close friend in US returning & i am thinking of purchasing turntable & all other accessory like vinyl cleaning kit etc.
Seen few items & liked them but could not decide.
Few things are important for me.
1. The look & feel of turntable.
2. Sound quality( not crystal clear sound but nearer to original players in 60-70s, i dont like very minute details in sound).
3. operational ease.
3. Low on maintenance.
4. a Complete unit with inbuilt speakers.
5. Incase required repairable in India.

hers the stuff seen on Web & i liked
1. Turntables
2. Pioneer USA - PL-990 - Fully Automatic Turntable

3.Amazon.com: Sony PSLX350H Stereo Turntable System: Electronics
Amazon.com: Sony PSLX250H Turntable: Electronics
Sony has good brand & product quality must be good. the second one is really bargain price.

Others are Denon, ION , Audio Technica etc.
Though I will mostly be a weekend user,I would like to buy all things required in futures like needle etc.

Please advise me on what will be best buy.

Regards,
Naveen

Hi there entsurgeon,
My Budget is 200$ but i can extend it till 400$ if the equipment has following qualities.
1. Good quality in sound & appearance.
2. Serve me for a couple of years without any maintenance,
Basically i am not an audiophile who will get into nitty gritty of records playing but just want to enjoy an hour of music on weekends.

By amp you mean amplifier, no i dont have it. I have a home theatre maybe i can use that for sound output, but do recommend what will give the best feel for original record player sound.

Happy record listening,
Naveen

Hi,

There are many used TT's available on Ebay. You can buy good mid level Technics DD TT@ around $150 from Ebay.Invest in good cartridge and phono stage, and you are done.Vintage TT's are very good VFM than newer once.I am having Technics Sl-D303 DD TT bought from forum member Kapvin.I have put Shure M55E high output MM cartridge on this.I am very happy with this TT.Now I prefer Vinyl over Cd.
