Dear Members,

I am looking for a cheap and decent home theatre to pair with my 32 inch LED TV, which is placed in a 20x11 feet living room.

The main reason I am going for such a system to increase the volume as the TV's volume is not that great especially when the children in the house make a lot of noise in the living room :-) I need some speakers near to where I sit , that is , at the other end of the room :-) My main usage will be the normal tv shows and sometimes playing the movies from USB drive.

I have gone through several threads here and understood that a basic level ht from yamaha/onkyo/pioneer etc need minimum 30k.
However I cannot think about such a budget right now and so i was thinking about consumer brands like Philips or Sony.

I know that memebrs in this forum are generally against buying brands like sony or philips. However with a budget of 15-20K, i was thinking, that may be a better option for me. Also as I am NOT an audiophile, i may not even get the essense out of these big brands.

The below philips models looks very stylish with tall boy speakers and 1000w. Sound seems to be descent when I heard some of them in RD , again I am not a audiophile to distingiush the fine details of sound.

14,5 K - http://www.snapdeal.com/product/philips-htd557094-dvd-home-theater/1856622032
17.5 K - http://www.snapdeal.com/product/philips-htd558094-3d-dvd-home/950730664

18.5 K - http://www.snapdeal.com/product/philips-htb354094-3d-blu-ray/1367844694

or Sony HT-iv300 for 18.5 K - http://www.snapdeal.com/product/sony-htiv300-51-channel-dth/717740009

Can you please share your opinion ? 20K is my max buget.

Thanks in advance.

For your requirement of getting better sound than TV volume, you are better of with powered speakers like Audio Engine A2 for around 20K roughly....They should satisfy you easily than the 5.1 systems for 20K....

Hi,

You said u just need speakers to increase the volume of the TV then why your are spending 15-20 K on these stupid 5.1 systems.Spend when you have good savings for a real 5.1 HTiB like Yamaha YHT 299.

Let me recommend the below Sony 4.1 speaker system that you can connect to your TV directly no need of DVD/Amp/Blue ray as you are going to watch movies from USB only.

It has all basic connectivity features [USB,NFC,Bluetooth,Audion I/O] with decent sound under 9999/- MRP. I personally auditioned these once and seems fine for your uses.

Here is the link...go and audition these in any consumer electronic store like Reliance Digital.

SA-D100 : 4.1 Multimedia Speakers : Speakers : Sony India

@sambasiv
On your budget you can check the Sony brand.
There is already some discussion going on here http://www.hifivision.com/home-theater/51468-your-view-sony-iv-300-5-1-ht-system.html
Or if you are ok with the 2.0 speakers, you can check with our FM above mentioned product.
You can also try Logitech Z506, or Z906 which has DTS, Dolby support. You may want to refrain from Philips because that is different category (purely based on your budget)

for your purpose mentioned philips is fairly good brand

just to get loudness more than tv you needn't buy HTIB as it might be clumsy for you required set up

try some soundbars, they are very good these days and quite loud too while it won't look clumsy either

philips & yamaha yst1400 can be good options

if you must buy a yamaha/onkyo 5.1 HTIB once & for all, you can check with bajaj capital near you & go for EMI finance option easily

Hi Sambasiv,

+1 for Sony in this budget, am not sure about Philips (Never had a chance to audition any Philips audio recently). You can always go for Sony in this budget, it wont let you down IMO. Personally i use a Sony Home Theatre which is pretty decent. It can produce a good quality and am pretty sure it will suit you requirements. I would say its value for money IMO.

You can try this..

BDV-E290 : Blu-ray Home Theatre Systems : Home Theatre System : Sony India

or

BDV-E490 : Blu-ray Home Theatre Systems : Home Theatre System : Sony India

Thanks,

how big would be your room?

But feature wise i would go with Philips HTB3540 (Its a bluray )

Thanks every one for your suggestions and opinion. My living room is 24x11. Many of you have suggested to go with just speakers without amp. However will it give enough sound for such a room ? Also, I thought a HtiB which may give me a better sound effect for the HD channels....

Philips home theatres, I heard in Vivek's - Koramangala Bangalore, and I felt that it is giving very good sound effect with its tall boy speakers.

I am pretty sure that I will go with a better system later, but for a couple of years I do not have a better budget.

Hello Abhijit Singh,
How do you compare this model with Sony's IV 300 ? What is the actual difference between a HTiB and a 5.1 speaker system ?
