I have the opportunity to buy a Marantz CD 6000 OSE (Original Special Edition) or the newer Marantz CD5400. Both are pre-owned.

My heart says CD6000 OSE but which would be a better buy?

If your heart says so... go with CD6000OSE... It has dual differential DAC. I don't think CD5400 has that... 6000 is a roughly 10 year old model and 5400 is 5... doesn't make a difference as long as you don't play MP3 CDs...

Hi,

have heard both, find the 6000OSE gives you lots of details which might be missed out in the 5400, BUT the recording has to be good for this to happen. If you listen to western classical/jazz, this is a very good CDP. It is definitely more refined that the 5400.
Bring your CD's along & hear both, you will realise exactly what i'm talking about,

:)

Thank you all. I have made up my mind more or less on 6000 OSE. Have heard about 6000 OSE not able to play CD-RW disks and some 10 pf cap needs to be soldered to fix this issue.

I havent tried cd-rw disks, but cd-rs play fine. why you want cdrw disks? it doesnt play mp3s though.

I am never going to try CD-RW disks. That was just what I gathered reading articles in the web and is mentioned in the service manual too.
