Hi,

I am new to HT world. I am planning to setup my living room HT system.
This is my requirement and personal preference of equipments.

1. I want to setup a 7.1 HT with HD projector.
2. A stereo/2.1 setup also along with it for HDTV and Music.
3. Only one sub which will work with both 7.1 and 2.1 due to space constraints.
4. I will use different speakers for 7.1 and 2.1 so total 9 speakers.
5. My Projector and TV are in two different direction, so possibly can't use the same speakers.
6. I will never use 7.1 and 2.1 simultaneously.

My personal choices are:

AVR : Denon X2000
SPK: Polk Audio TL1 & PSW110
PROJECTOR: Epson 1080p

My Queries are as below:
Do I need a separate AMP for 2.1 which will take input from X2000 pre-out?
Any other choice for amp or speaker?

Please suggest a suitable solution.

Regards,
Apurba.

Can you share a diagram of living room- with the equipment that you planning to use. This can be used as a start of the discussion

There will be a Zone Two output, which is a separate amp that can be used for a set of two different floor-stands, connected to x2000.

Hi Apurba,

The Marantz SR series 5007 or 5008 or SR 6007 or 6008 is good for music, concerts and movies, it has Zone 2 capabilities and you can add another integrated amplifer which can support L+R + Subwoofer. There are a few models which have Optical / Coaxle inputs.

For speakers, you can do a mix and match between Wharfedales, B&W, Boston Acoustics, Jamo, Polks, KEFs etc. All depends on your budget and what appeals to you.

The most important is to consider the room size, layout and what you want in speakers? Satellites, Bookshelfs or Towers.

I'm with Efernand1 and back Marantz. If you stretch a bit more go for Cambridge Audio.

Strongly point you away from Denon. I've listened to Denon's and find them mediocre at best for music or movies. Worst is the one-dimensional overpowering bass notes where everything is a non-descript one note loud thud. Impressive to those who think a loud "boom" is the only criteria for an AVR.

Remember that a movie is mostly music and voice. So the mantra that AVR are good for movies or music is false. If an AVR is good at music it will also be good for movies (which, again, are mostly voice and soundtrack music).

Marantz is still good but I don't know for how much longer since they were bought out by Denon and soon will be dummed down to be gimmick rather than good sound.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your valuable suggestions and inputs.
Here are few points I wanted to clarify,

Living_Apurba.jpg

This is my living room photo. All wiring already done so changing position is not an option.
1. I can't have floor standing or bookshelf speakers due to various other reasons  only satellite.
2. I want to use same SUB for both 7.1 & 2.1. Is this possible? May be bi-amping, please suggest suitable sub for bi-amp.
3. I checked Marantz few models but its bit costly, I will get X2000 and a cheap power amp for 2.1 at same price.
4. What else is required as per your suggestion?
5. All my spk points are at 7 feet level, is that fine? I know its kind of not good but its already done so i have to live with it.

Please suggest a cheap but decent power amp for 2.1 which will take pre-out(L/R) as input from X2000 and run 2 satellite 1 powered sub.

Regards,
Apurba.
