i bought my Samsung Series 5 LA40C550 LCD one week ago.
but i have few questions.
what is the maximum file size that this LCD tv can read?
and someone said here that a 500 gb HDD can be attached to this LCD TV. because i would like to play bluray movies with a size of 10gb and above from my 500gb HDD.
what will be the format of my HDD NTFS or FAT32? what format of HDD will be compatible for this TV? But FAT32 can only transfer maximum of 4gb.

hope you guys can help us.

Hi
I have a Samsung 40" LCD 5 series TV, I have a 2Tb HDD with a dock, this is connected to an Asus media player via HDMI to my Amp via HDMI to my TV, My WD HDD is recorded with Blue Ray/HD,so I watch in full 5.1 ss
what help needed?

i think the op meant was playability & compatibility issues of media & storage type through usb of the tv

i had the 40c530 for about a month & half b4 returning it & getting to know about media playability & storage support! So afair...the samsung lcd tvs reads NTFS hdd with single hd video file exceeding 10gb...reads/plays allmost all the video formats like .mkv,.mp4,.avi, etc,etc along with aac ,dts & ac3 audio.it does also displays subtitles exceedingly well unlike sony lcd tv,which doesnot display them at all!....it also does supports hdd of big capacity like 1 or 2 tb.....so overall i can say that samsung lcd tv's like c530 or d550 really excels in this dept.

& u can quite easily give a dedicated mediaplayer a skip for the timebeing!

hope u got ur answer. :)

even i have the same model , few videos are not getting played fully .
other problem is i was not able to connect it to computer for play back .

connect it to computer for playback!!! Which port are you using? I hope its not usb... It will detect external usb/hard drives upto 2TB, both fat or ntfs formatted

thanks for the help guys.

so if im going to buy a 500gb HDD connect it to my samsung la40c550 and play a movie with a supported video format of the la40c550 with a size of (example) 15gb i will have no problems playing it?
it will not stop in the middle of the movie?

what brand of external hard drive do you recommend?

this are the questions i want to be answered. i hope you guys could help me on this.

I havent tried a 15gb rip; but a 4gb rip plays fine. I would recommend Western Digital Green Caviar 2TB 3.5" internal hdd with a good quality casing.

thanks. since you mentioned about WD hdd i can't afford a 2tb right now:(

how about
WD My passport Essential 500GB
or
WD Elements 500 GB

because i called a lot of computer store here and most of them are selling WD hdd only. :(

which one do you prefer?

Hi,

Do u guys have any idea about a 2.5 TB powered USB HDD works with Sammy LCD (LA32c630)?
I have issues with my 2.5 TB. My TV is recognizing the HDD but showing no files are available to play though it has. Another Toshiba 500GB is working fine.
Please share if u have any info.

Thanks
Siva

I have one 1.5 TB and 2 TB external HDD from WD. My TV 40C650 recognzes both of these and plays all the movies perfectly. I have original bluray movies size of 30GB Approx. played on this TV without any issues.

@sgajjala,

Have you done any changes to HDD's? I mean, formatting/power settings change/etc,..
Today, Im gonna try few more tries. Will hav 2 see my luck... :(

Guys,

Atlast, I am able get my 2.5 HDD files played by my TV. The only thing I did is partitioning it to multiple drives. 1.75, .25 & .25 TBs. Now when I connect it, TV recognozes as two drives connected.
