I bought the Sony HT - IV - 300 home theatre system 3 years back.
Specification:
https://www.flipkart.com/sony-ht-iv300-5-1-home-cinema/p/itmef7nsefyrtpvb ( Impedance levels are mentioned)
https://www.sony.co.in/electronics/sound-bars/ht-iv300/specifications

For the front speakers, just used the default surrounding speaker wires ( impedance of front = surrounding = 3 ohm), so no worries about them.
I would like to install the surrounding(rear) speakers of 3-ohm impedance on the walls. The wires are concealed. So, I need to buy the wires to extend up to 30 feet for each speaker.
Online references/readings lead to confusion as everyone stands on their own standard.
1. Can you guys help me to buy the right wire with right AWG and with a wire gauge chart for distances vs ohm ?
2. Shall I simply buy 14 gauge wire "https://www.amazon.in/AmazonBasics-...pons&keywords=amazon+basic+speaker+wire&psc=1" without thinking too much technical?
3. As the wires are concealed, should i think of oxygen free copper wires like "https://www.amazon.in/AmazonBasics-...845&sr=8-6&keywords=amazon+basic+speaker+wire" ?
Am i really thinking too much?

14 AWG will be too much for this system.....you can safely use 16 AWG or even 18 AWG.....(considering 3/4 ohms load and the actual output).

Amazon Basics is fine.....get good wires since it will be concealed.

Agree with @efernand1 , 16 gauge should be sufficient for these speakers. Also you need to check the clearance on the wire connector. Usually these systems come with thin 16-18 gauge cables. Getting thicker cables should not make it difficult for you to insert the cable in the connector.

You may use electrical wire too.
Just get them by the meter at local shop.
Will be cheaper than all speaker cables

Thanks for all of your responses. I hope the distance never matters for this kind of Home theatre systems?
Longer the run, more resistance. Plus the resistance of the speaker (in your case 3 ohm).
Hence I suggested, electrical cable (aka lamp cord) :)
Cheap and they will do the trick.

Raghu

Hi Karthik, so what did you do finally?
Bought 16 guage Amazon Basics speaker wires and completely replaced the original wires OR joined to it to original wires?

If you replaced it completely then how did you manage to splice the wires with the connector jack on the AV amplifier side?

If you joined the cables then was there any degradation in sound quality?

Pls respond as I too have bought the same home theater model.

Thanks
