Hi Guys,

I want to buy a optical cable, it will be used to connect my PS3 and Tata sky(not at the same time ofcource) to my bose lifestyle 18 home theater.
I saw the add of hifimart on this site, through which I finalized these 2(I want to buy any 1)

1.DAC TTN761 Optical Fibre Cable
2.DAC ARP010 Optical Fibre Cable

My question is, why is there a price difference between those 2? Also does hifimart offer COD?

Thanks a lot!

for optical cables you need not buy 900rs cables just as hdmi.
i always purchase cables from ebay.in lot of sellers there..you can get one for 200-300rs easily.

digital cables are digital cables are digital cables are...

but...

A difference in material quality is perfectly possible. I can conceive that one optical core might be clearer than another. Perhaps this is one instance in which transparency really counts in a cable!

With these two examples, the specs show that the more expensive one has a bigger optical fibre. Does that matter? intuition suggests that it might, but technical matters are not necessarily intuitive, except to the technical.

I would pay Rs900 for an optical cable, but I would not pay 9,000! I had (must still have them, somewhere) a pair that probably cost more than twice that, but they are several times the usual length. I used to use optical cables quite a lot, especially with portable devices, and can't say that I ever noticed a difference.

Beware: they are sensitive to bend. Obviously, if you bend them enough they are going to snap, but there is a radius beyond which signal loss happens. Not theoretical: it has happened to me. One box had got pushed back, and the optical cable was bent by the wall. The effect was so strong I thought I'd broken it, but it was fine when I moved the box away from the wall.

So it means it doesnt really matter? I can buy anyone. Also I wanted to know if there would be any noticeable difference as presently I am using RCAs(red and Black)?

A cheap optical cable will work just as well as an expensive one. This is because it is a digital cable. A digital cable will either work or won't work. At the same time, a slightly more expensive cable from a renowned manufacturer may be with better workmanship and quality adherence and may last longer. Optical cable is prone to breakage if bent severely. Hence I rather prefer three coaxial digital cable any day.

Digital cables are better than analogue RCA. But it also depends upon the DAC. An expensive CD player with a Burr-Brown DAC circuit may perform better with analogue output than using its digital out connected to an integrated amp with run of the mill kind of DAC.

ANY digital transmission (Optical, Coaxial, HDMI, USB) will make use of checksums, which essentially is a signature of the data being sent. If there is any transmission error, the signature wont match the data (except in a extremely small case mathematically) and receiver will know there is an error. So quality of material does not matter.
