Amphion Helium 410! Pls give them a listen.
Have heard them with the Marantz 6005 amp & CDP, synergies very well.

if you already have a CDP, then you can consider an Active Setup, you can consider Sonodyne DAC P1 + Active speakers SRP 201/202... Should be approx 60 - 65K.....

:) Hmmm.... To which other set-up are you comparing it with?

In the What's Hi-Fi show last year Sonodyne had a display room for their active range. Carried my own cd to play in their speakers and found the SQ to be very compressed, bright and not at all open. They have just tried to mimic the Genelc speakers with no R&D or originality in what they make. Hence the disaster.

Other speakers like the PMC, Dyna audio, B&W did not have these issues. I strongly agree with Denom to consider Amphion instead of Sonodyne Actives.

Thanx @ Hari Iyer..... Do you remember if they paired with DAC P1.. Am considering their Active speakers + DAC P1 hence requesting feedback...

I very recently heard their studio range of products SRP series in chennai.....Their SRP Home active speakers , think is no different from Studio SRP products....I had a good listen to them with some FLAC & WAV songs.....They were good to my untrained ears.....They were defently better than what i have heard from a comparable price range equipments....

I am not sure what they played with as i did not bother to check since i did not liked the overall SQ. I can remember that they were priced from 65K onwards. I am not sure what price range you are looking at but at 65K there are much better options available than Sonodyne. Its not that all active speakers are good, its how good you are able to implement them. Just having a waveudie and copied as per Genelec does not make it sound like that. There are larger design considerations than the waveguide.

If they were priced from 65K onwards, then i think you are referring to OPUS range... I haven't heard OPUS so far...

SRP series for Home was launched very recently.. Probably after OPUS range... SRP range starts from 18K for a single piece (SRP 201)...

I have heard about Genelec & their range of studio products but not much in detail to compare products...

Generally speaking Actives are better than passive for its own advantages of having individual amplifiers for each driver...

The bare minimum if someone were to buy a pair of SRP 201 + DAC P1, it would be roughly 55K... Am not sure if you would get a DAC + stereo amp + speakers for the same budget that can surpass the Actives....

As per me - whatever you buy at whatever price point, if its not pleasing to your ears, then finally it ends as scrap and wastage. Do not go by the amount of components you are getting for an x amount but the value of the overall proposition. If you do not like what you hear then its a wastage.

While i agree to your point "if its not pleasing to your ears, then finally it ends as scrap and wastage",

i would like to gracefully disagree to "Do not go by the amount of components you are getting for an x amount but the value of the overall proposition"

For Ex:

The speakers that you have mentioned retails for 60K i believe (Passive).. Now for the same 60K we have SRP 202 (actives)...How can one ignore the proposition here.....

You can get a good Matrix DAC using BurrBrown PCM1792 for around 21K, a good analogue audio labs hybrid stereo amp for around 27K and good book shelf speakers from me which will be around 25K (if required) which will be better than Sonodyne as a whole.

With all due respect to the components you have listed, only a side by side comparison with the same source material can say if passive are better than actives...

How important is wall placement for you ? If that is the case a sub sat might be a good options. Good ones by focal should work. There are lots of really good speakers like monitor audio, quad, zu, psb, energy, paradigm etc.

That is true about even a 1k audio system or a 1000k audio system. Only comparison in the same venue can justify.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
