Hifi Stuff from Dubai

Hi All .. I have been saving bucks to purchase my first stereo setup. Having done a lot of reading on this forum. Like to have a setup with Integrated amp with USB input, bookshelf speakers. Want to use my old laptop as my source. My budget is 50K-70K

One of my close friends, is a frequent traveler. He visits Africa atleast twice a month, most of the times via Dubai. He doesn't have restriction on weight (as he generally carries only a small suitcase).

1. Guys, what stuff can I get from Dubai? (Any particular brands which are cheaper in Dubai)
2. Would there be a significant price difference in getting the stuff from there?

Integrated amplifier with USB, then you two choices.. Onkyo TX 8050 & Yamaha R N 500 stereo receivers.....

1) Electronics would be the cheaper.. All brands are cheaper in Dubai as far as i have heard....
2) Yes... Prices in India are sometimes more than 100% than Dubai prices... worth it if you can get them...

If you friend doesn't have issues with luggage, ask him to get both the speakers & amplifier from Dubai.... You may have one hell of a system for 50K.....

Other FM would suggest USB DAC & a stereo amplifier as they would give better solution....Anyways pick the one whichever is convenient to you...

How about NAD D 3020? I hope it will be within the price range if bought in Dubai. Will there be any custom duty to be paid in India?

I have a friend who comes from Kuwait this year end. I am also thinking about asking him to buy an amplifier (as of now NAD D 3020) there.

Bottom line, Airlines have become smarter and have reduced the Luggage weight ....you may want to check on this. Secondly almost everything is available in India with and without warranty....Thirdly, our great custom officers are waiting to make a quick buck....end of the day, if you have factored all this and still willing to go ahead to purchase from Dubai, its your call....
