Hi This is Sri. First of all I would like to mention that HIVISION.com helps a lot to get you entertain yourself in a better way.
I am in the process of upgrading my hometheater setup to hidhdef,
Currently I have sammy HD TV, sony str receiver, panny DVD player and TS DTH (SD).
To upgrade, I need to change my tv to full hd, replace dvd player with 3d bluray player and replace SD dth with HD. Decide not to upgrade receiver due to budget.
On TV made my mind on panny P42ST30. Need idea where to get best quote.
Need advise on 3D BD player with 7.1 analog out.(My receiver is old no hdmi )
Need advise on HD DTH for south india,

Appreciate your inputs.

Thanks

Re: High definition AV home theater setup - update

Thanks
Update is that I have decide on the DTH I am going fo. It is going to be videocon D2H as it has max HD and regional content with same PQ. Only compromise would be no DD 5.1.
Negotiating best price for P42st30. Not getting less than 73K. Pls suggest anydealer.

hi, welcome to the world of audio/video nirvana.........this is the best place to be!!! ok, a few things i want to point out.

You say you already have a samsung tv so why would you want to get a new tv?

you want to get a 3D DTH, why? knowing that 3D content is not available as yet in India. and why would you NOT want 5.1 audio when that is the basis of any 5.1 HT set up. what is the use of a 5.1 HT when you are not getting 5.1.
videocon does not come with 5.1 audio and to me that is a VERY big drawback. I would definitely want 5.1 audio in my HT, irrespective of 3D content or any other service videocon may offer.

my advice..........upgrade to tata sky HD so you get 5.1 audio alongwith a good HD service. since you already have a HDTV, stick with it and spend the money on a good 5.1 speaker system. please do not fall into the HD ready vs full HD debate. I hope you are not thinking of getting a new tv just because of this.

Thanks guys!.

1. I wanted to change my tv mainly bcos it has lots of dead pixels secomdly it is only 26 and thought 42 will be better.3rd pt is that if 42 I wanted it to be with best PQ for BLUray movies.

2. I did not want a 3d DTH but HD DTH. I like tatsky but problem is not enough regional content then I need to have a 2nd connection of other DTH or cable.I just want one connection which is better. If I have to go for 5.1 DTH I think it is usefull only for movies and there are only one channel in TS (start movies HD). Thats why considered D2H which has more HD which is good on PQ even the audio is stereo.(hopefully D2H soon upgrade to 5.1)

3. I like to use ny HT 5.1 setup for blu ray movies, and in near future I ca upgrade it to latest so I can enjoy 7.1 DDtruehd and DTSmasteraudio

sorry I did not get it. Why TS with 5.1 when there is only one movie channel (star movies HD) which will use that. If airtel dth I will get 5.1 as well as 2 movie channels(star movies HD and Times now HD). If I go for TS will need another dth or cable connection for regional channels.
Also what is the best price can get for p42st30?
appreciate inputs.

the reason for TS is Airtel service suck big time. i am using it and dont have an option out

agree fully...m using Airtel HD_DVR for some time....though the PQ and SQ is quite good. I get DD 5.1 on StarMoviesHD, Star Gold HD, MoviesNowHD, Discovery HD World & NGC HD.

Customer care- almost non existent for Airtel DTH

1. On TV almost deal on 42st30 for 70K in chennai.
2. On HD DTH dilemma between TS and D2H. Leaning towards D2H as dont have much regional content with TS. If go for TS for reginal content I have to have additionaly other dth like sun or d2h. !!!
3. On Bluray player leaning towards BDT110 as dont find player with 7.1 analog output in chennai.

Hopefully I will finish this next weekend. appreciate inputs.

Will suggest two things:

1. Tata Sky HD has 7 Full HD Channels with 5.1 sound, NCG, Discovery HD, Star Plus HD, Star Movies HD, Star Gold HD, Star World HD, Plus Star Cricket HD for a package costing just 230 bucks!

2. I have a Panasonic Bluray player which a friend brought or me fron the US for 6500 bucks model no. BD80 not released in India. It does decode DTS HDMA, and DD HD to 7.1 which goes to my Old Denon via analog. Sounds great but purchasing bluray's drains your moolah like anything.

I prefer using my Asus O!Play Air or any other HD media player (Xtreamer, WD, Seagate, Popcorn Hour all work well) with 8000GB of bluray rips so you get money to spare for the rest of your rig!

Hope this helps.

Guys,
last weekend almost booked my p42st30 for 68K then stopped it as I was confused abt IR and day time watching.

1. Mostly kids watch cartoon channels for hrs. Will it cause IR.
2. Also they like to watch tv on day time. will it be OK with Plasma with out blacking out the room.
3. In india most of the movie based program telecast with balck bars on top and bottom will it cause IR or BI??

Please ST30 owners or similar plama owners clarify me . Other wise I will go for L42E30 which is a led TV!!

Appreciate ur valuble inputs

Re: High definition AV home theater setup - Done

First of all Thanks to all the guys for the valuable info shared.
here is the story in short (may help some).

Two months back decided to upgrade my home theater system Full HD.
TV- Had a 6 yrs old 26"samsung lcd tv. I was looking at 3d LED models 42" from LG or Panny. After becoming member here and net search found plasmas will give a better movie watching experience than LCD/LED. So leaned over to panny as many not sure abt sammy and LG. Then almost bought P42ST30. Then one day came across a display piece of last yr top model P42v20D and decided to skip 3D as I thought not much 3d content right now and 42" is small for a 3d exp and particularly the P42v20D price was 34k which was attracting. Finally settled with P42v20D for 34K and veruy happ with the PQ and AQ quality.

BD player- Had a pioneer DVD player. wanted to get a BD player with 3D capability and panny brand was in mind. My main req was to have a good 3d and also 5.1 analog output to use with my old AVR. As I went with non 3d tv I switched to non 3d BD player and as I could not find a good 5.1 analog out BD player settled with SONY s380. So far it plays all the collection I have (dvd ,cd ). I connected my avr thru coax.

DTH- Had a SD TS for last 3 yrs. Decided to upgrade to hd and also change the service provider as not enough regional content for south india. after a long wait and confusion decide to go for airtel HD. D2h was my other option but worried abt new company how the policy will change in future and poor hardware quality and poor UI, and no 5.1 support officially made me decide against it. The ADTV HD installation was quick and very smooth than I thought. 2 month south ultra pack free. The pq aq is good. No CC problem as yet. Miss sports HD channel. did not connect to avr as the aq was very good with my p42v20D TV itself. also 5.1 sound compared with BD disc is not good. may be the compression not sure.

AVR - Decided to stick with my 10 yrs old sony strde445. It lacks dd 7.1 and dts MA but I am happy with DD and DTS. Speaker cable with 16 AWG cable for 38 feet rear speaker connection. No problem so far. sont satelite speakers of 8 ohm load used. This is an entry level HT but good enough,.

Thanks
