I'm looking to put automation into my HT and have no idea where to start.
My basic requirement is to control the following using an android based phone or tablet:
1) Onkyo AVR (HTS3400)
2) Benq W1070
3) Tata Sky HD Set Top Box
4) Sony BDP S380
5) XBMC on my HTPC
6) Lights (On-Off only OK but dimming will be great)
7) 2 Fans and an exhaust fan (On-Off only is OK)
8) Air conditioner
9) Motorized window shades/drapes/curtains (Future expansion)
There are so many different apps online, and protocols and a large variety of completely different kinds of solutions for achieving this that it's simply overwhelming. I've come across a large no of names like Crestron, Control4, iRule, Roomie and Insteon but can't seem to understand which of these is right and cost effective for MY REQUIREMENTS. I'm inclined towards iRule.
As for budget, cheapest one but should be able to do everything mentioned above.
Please help me and also share the method you use.
