Hi All,

I am looking for a basic home theater just for viewing regular movies, tv and some music. Just needs it for regular use. Since I am not a bis music enthusiast what I am looking for a good value for money product with decent sound and having good connectivity options.

My budget is only up to 15k. Could you all please help me by suggesting some products. I do not have any idea about the this category and would like your opinion before I invest the money.

Thanks you all for reading.

15 k will be very tight for HT. Don't go for Sony, Philips, LG, Samsung models. They don't have HDMI input. So you won't be able to connect any external device with the amp.
You can audition Yamaha YHT 198 from Reliance Digital @ 23k. Earlier this model was available around 19.5 thousand but now the price has gone up. I strongly recommend to increase your budget, even if you have to wait 2 months.

yah..rupam said correctly..
save money and go for yamaha 196,onkyo 3400,...both are good.under 25k
never ever settle for sony.phillps etc..dvd cum ht..

The intension behind suggesting not to go for Sony, sammy, LG, Philips is, they have very limited connectivity to the latest equipment we use.

I would also strongly suggest to increase the budget a little and look for ONKYO/YAMAHA/etc. Some times, you may get a good deal. You can also look for previous versions of the cureently available models. They must come for lesser prices. Just a thought.

+1 to above.....performance. It does matter. myself used Sony HT for years and now bought RXV473. attached old sony HT speakers with 473 and I must say there was a huge huge difference I could notice the moment I put it on.

you can buy an
Amp from Astonia Audio SC 300 for 4k
speaker: you can get Sonodyne Sonus 1501 Bookshelf speaker for 10k or saw an used tannoy mercury V1 speaker for sale...

then if you need you can add a sub later

I have almost similar setup.. SC 300 with Sonodyne 1601 Floorstanding speaker. . I am pretty happy with it

but you can only have a stereo setup with the above.. no 5.1

My reply may sound inappropriate ..but here it goes....

If u r really on a tight budget and can't spend more at any cost..

Try if u can buy from Dubai thro friends or relative..

I have seen myself onkyo 3400 and Yamaha 196 for rs.16000

Well there may be another option. If you have a good Desktop buy a good 5.1 multimedia speaker. Then later when you can afford get a good sound-card. Get Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 @ Rs. 9,495.00
OP, we have to respect the budget restrictions of other people.

Thanks all for your suggestions and comments...
Now I am confused more than ever :)
Cannot increase the budget...so still thinking

I am also on the same boat - looking for a decent HTS within 12/14K.
The mentioned HTSes - Onkyo 3400 or Yamaha 196 are way above my budget.

I am just looking for a casual/low-cost solution to upgrade my TV's sound. Since I don't get much time to sit in front of the TV (plus I live in a rented house), a 20K+ budget would be a waste for me.
I just need something more than current 10W sound of the TV speakers. :P

Once I thought of going for some cheap VFM 5.1 speaker systems like F&D 6000U selling for 6.7K in flipkart + a DAC to get Optical output from my TV.
It'd solve many problems - No need for HDMI In/outs in the receiver(my TV got 4), 5.1 sound for sources like DLNA or USB etc.

But before going for the speaker system, I wanted to try once.
Or may be I can better speaker system that within my budget - 15K.

@Mathrisk,

My setup cost around 16.5. Astonia Amp + Sonodyne speakers. You are welcome for audition. Although my weekends are kind of busy. :(

Its a good setup if you are into music and little movie.

do yourself a favour.........PLEASE wait till you save more money and get a good system you will not regret later. Better to wait and buy the right stuff than regret. You definitely don't want to go anywhere near Sony, Philips, Samsung, Lg, etc............They are NOT hifi brands.

You should be looking at Onkyo, Denon, etc...............Else look at used systems on the forum.
