Hi
i been offered a Marantz pm30 amplifier for 5K , is it a good price ? and how good is this particular model. unfortunately i couldn't check this because the shop owner dint have proper speakers .

its a good amp. if the condition is good, the price is fine too...

about the sonics:
1. its got a very flat response and can sound a bit dull if you want the typical sound... having said that, i'd say it sounds good if you want a neutral and soft kind of presentation. the HF is a bit rolled off too.

if you're listenign to soft jazz, vocals and classical its great. not the best amp for rock/metal and pop.

Thanks Malvai... thanks for the reply , i couldn't find much info on this amp with Google , i like Rock, Techno and Indian film music (Malayalam,Tamil ,Hindi) its seems this amp wont suit for these type of music . Could you suggest me some amps (used) in this budget . Or should i go for the Topping T20 which has got some good feedback here .

Hi am new to this forum and fairly novice to stereos and hope some experts here can lead me to the right direction.

does anyone have any info on these marantz pm 30 and the set as pictured ? I have tried other avenues but cannot seem to get any suggestions or info on these units.

Wow! what a beautiful beast!
Where from in 'strya are you?
Should definitely look up @rajan- Sir.

While you are at it, maybe @raghupb could also look into this.

There are many, many qualified people you can find here, but if I were you, I'd latch on to these two lovely FMs.
Wishing you the best in your quest.

@Learningbits
I have next to zero knowledge about vintage amps
Are you particularly seeking vintage (Marantz) amps? Or just on a hunt for a decent amp for your rig.

Cheers,
Raghu

neither am I an expert in anything.

is that from some JB hifi store used section ? if it was from a user direct, and if its sitting in their current playing gear, it would be less risk.

if the asking price is good for you, play it before cash out.

standard tests u can try are:

increase / decrese volume and see if u get grainy sound (if pots are bad)
try each function ( atleast the one you are after ) , and be prepared for surprises later.

try and open it, and see the capacitor condition, they may be old and bad / abt to go bad. replacements if you cant do it yourself, will cost a lot of money as any service is expensive here. you can also see if its been repaired / serviced before.
