1. How it fares in PQ w.r.t other tv's in its price point, specifically for the 32 inch. I am not very keen on the 3d aspect.
2. I have tatasky hd plus stb, does the 400 hz cmr of the tv helpful in watching fast moving scenes of the sd channels of tatasky hd +.
3. How is the 3d to 2d conversion(I'm not much interested in 3d, but just want to know).
4. How about samsung's extended warranty is it much better compared to sony's extended warranty in terms of after sales service during the tenure.
THANKS SHANKAR

Suggestions please. Earlier 1 year back i had slowly gathered money for buying a tv, but i bought a laptop for my father. So i am slowly gathering money to buy a tv now.

Relax, Sir. Today is Diwali day and I suppose that everyone is busy with festivities. Only good-for-nothing people like me online! :ohyeah:
  1. The Samsung 6 Series is a good mid-market level series with very good PQ and combines some good technology but not the latest/best. It does not have micro-dimming for instance that enhances blacks and contrast. But overall the PQ is quite good for the price you pay. Now coming to "price you pay", I am of the opinion that 32" is not the right size for the "price you pay". I do not know the exact price but I am guessing that it will be close to 45K. This is a lot of money to pay for a 32". At this size, and a viewing distance of 6 ft or above, you cannot tell the difference between a full-HD LED as this one and a much cheaper HD-Ready LCD. Hence, I will not recommend 32" 6 Series. Go for 40"+, if you have the budget; else stick to 4 Series.
  2. Clear Motion Rate or CMR is a jargon in equivalence to Sony's motion flow. This technology predicts the motion change between two successive frames and introduces interpolated frames in between to smoothen the motion. But this has many drawback such as the Soap Opera Effect. Refresh rate is a clearer measure of motion smoothening. If the TV's refresh rate is 60Hz and CMR is 240Hz, then CMR will cause more annoying artifacts than helping. Many people find CMR and the likes annoying and even turn it off.
  3. I suppose you mean 2D to 3D conversion and not the other way round. In 32", you will not get good 3D effect because the size is too small. Even in bigger TVs, 2D --> 3D is nothing great to speak about. This kind of effect gives depth to the images but things will not pop out, for example. I am not a 3D fan; so best I don't comment too much about it.
  4. I would rate Samsung's after sales support to be better than Sony but just by a photo finish. Samsung is better established in India with many more service centers and employees.

already very nicely explained by Mr kix....
i want to say
as you saved the moeny and dont want a upgrade go for 40 inch..a 32 incher will feel you upgrade itchy after 6 moenths....
consider plasma and led and lcd all.
demo all
read plasma vs led/lcd-led carefully.
decide
then demo betwwen brands.
go for the best picture to your and your eyes only.
demo keeping all setting same.and home like setting..not ultra high everything they keep in showrooms.
with Sd and Hd content(bd disk)/files/star movies hd etc
check blacks,fast motions,daylight scene/shadow details....
dont demo on the basis of the standard hd recordings which run normally in showrooms...the hotesl, exotic plces, colorful clothes..not those.

some budget models
samsung 400(plasma,43 inch,800*450 pixels,33.5k)
samsung 490(plasma,43 inch,1024*768 pixels,42k,3d)
sony Bx 40 inch,ccfl-lcd,52k,1080p full
sony ex 650 lcd-led,63k,1080p full
panny x30d 42 inch 37k,plasma 42 inch,1024*768 pixels
panny xt 42 inch plasma 3d,42 inch,1024*768 pixels....45k..
toshiba 40 inchers lcd at 40k 1080p...
sorry no idea about sammy lcd/lcd-led model numbers....

there are many concepts,like low res/hi res...plasma vs led...lcd vs lcd-led.
low res hi res only matters as long as you find it disappointing at your viweing distance
ccfl lcd vs lcd-lcd matters if you find a picture difference...
only point to be taken care of plasma image burn in maintenance..if want to take care of that point they are highly value for money still with a better picture...

consider all..demo...take your time...decide

lastly for a 32 inch a basic lcd from toshiba at 17k or from a panasonic at 20k is more than sufficeient........

Both justforkix and prosenjit have explained most of your queries. Just to add.

2d to 3d conversion is more of a gimmick. What it does is that one feels a sense of depth into the TV. Actual 3d blurays make you jump out of the seat with arrows and bullets flying past you, but this also depends how the movie was shot e.g. Avatar 3d looks great while some old movies which underwent post production conversion appear underwhelming. There are some side effects like headache in the beginning however one gets used to it with time, passive 3d is better in this respect and also has cheap polarised glasses.

3d effect becomes better when screen size is large preferably over 46 inches.

^ +1.
i bet you if you would use the 2d to 3d conversion even once in 3 months....after first week use...
this 3d---its like a good camera some of us(except true photographic hobbyinsts) just buy in a craze and after first several hundered shots it finds its place in our almirah......

3d is good while playing a oroginal 3d bd in a very large screen...say 70 inch(my preference) as already said by audiodoc...

1. What is the likelihood of the panel going kaput(in terms of no of years) for both sony and samsung each.
2. After taking 2 years extended warranty from samsung, will samsung replace the panel free of cost in case of any defect within the 2 year tenure.
3. I want to buy 40 inch led of 60k budget (room lighting doesn't support plasma), but i'm also afraid that it may go kaput in 1 or 2 years, because I can invest in tv's only once in 3 years for a budget of 60k(as of today)
So kindly suggest me which tv(with good PQ) will i be able to run trouble free fo for a budget of 60k for a duration of 3 years.

We can't say how long a TV will work without complaints. I have a three year old panasonic LCD and it works fine even with the erratic voltage condition at my home.

1. There is no guarantee on how long the panel will last. Sony is a better bet in this regard. Not that Samsung or LG are bad. I haven't heard of LG panel failures, for instance.
2. Yes.
3. See 1 above. If you are keen on 3D, go with LG or Panasonic passive 3D models.

1. You mean to say that samsung has got better a.s.s, but sony's panel tend to last longer.
3. No, I am not keen on 3d so what do you recommend specifically for 40 inches.
