I have the opportunity to buy a projector in Germany (as I will be in Germany for few months). I am thinking of buying Optoma HD 142X which has a bulb life span of 8000 hours. I would like to know from other users of projector if they ever happen to change the bulbs. Reason is, I need advice on whether to also buy a spare bulb along with the projector or not (as I am not sure when I will get another chance to visit Germany).
As per my calculation: assuming 5 hours of weekly use of projector (my need is only movies and may be an occasional world cup cricket/football match), 50 weeks in a year would mean my projector will last for 32 years!
Let me know your thoughts on the same. What were the reasons which led you to change your bulb? What are your usage hours per week?

Also could anyone recommend a good projector screen which I could buy in Germany? A pulldown screen would suit my need. Amazon.de is also perfect for me to buy.

Sorry, by mistake I posted in this forum instead of Home Theatre Projectors. Request moderator to move it.
Meanwhile other members replies are welcome :)

I am using my PJ for last 3 years and it is still strong. Usage pattern is similar to what you explained and I anticipate the PJ to go for atleast 3 more years if not more under this usage. Also dont go for a spare bulb now, as you may not know what will be the technology after 5 years. Who knows, you may even be dumping your PJ and will be embracing a VR headset after 5 years :)

I wouldn't buy a spare bulb with a projector. Few years down the line you'll be wanting to upgrade to 4k or even 8k [emoji4]
