Okay I have a couple of new Tata Sky+ HD boxes installed at my place. I have a few recordings that I have made on the box. These mostly include HD recordings in 720p / 1080i formats.

I just wanted to know if there is a way to transfer these recordings to a pen drive or a laptop.

I have read elsewhere that one way is to have a tv tuner card installed with the laptop. Is this the only way to transfer ?

If the tv tuner card is necessary then which one should be bought and installed with a laptop as I do not have a desktop computer. What would be the price? Also as I mentioned that most of the recordings are in HD (1080i) format so would it be even be possible to copy these recordings to a laptop. If yes how would be the quality ?

Could anyone give me a detailed description of how this could be done. Tata Sky + HDR boxes have a pen drive slot at the back but I do not think that is of any use except for updation of software from Tata SKy's end.

Apologies if this is a repeat question. I tried looking for similar threads but could not find the exact solution. If this has already been answered recently kindly provide the links to the same.

U cannot copy any content to Pen drive or any drive, be it Tata Sky or Airtel or Reliance or Videocon.

The content stored in copyrighted.

To be more accurate to what Jignesh said, you can copy/rip the content as a backup to other media, but it will still have to be copied back to the TS+HD HDD to play! Only Free to Air content can be viewed without the encryption key stored on your TS+HD box, however unfortunately mostly NONE of the channels on Tatasky is FTA, not even those supposedly free DD channels.

You can download copy+ and extract+ software (google and you will get the download page) to rip the data.

One solution to this problem is there which I do but it's time consuming.

As content in Tata Sky box can't be transferred,so what I do is I play the recording on TV and from the video out I connect it to my DVD Cam and record it in my hard disk. Or if you have a DVD recorder you can record it there as we'll.

Do all TVs have Video out?

Check out Avermedia on eBay.in and elsewhere. They do have a dealer in India.
I use one of their products but with a desktop which will not be suitable for use with a laptop.

The only way to transfer recordings from Tata Sky + HD is using TV tuner card. Get a good external HD TV tuner. Available in Flipkart.
