How to find best location to place your WIFI Router?

How can I find best location to place my WIFI Router so that I get good signal everywhere in the house.

Keep wifi router close to ceiling, you will get good coverege.

In a central location, equally distant from all locations from where you are likely to use it.

LoS is not needed for WiFi, so placing near the ceiling won't help or hurt.

1 point to always remember, avoid keeping it ANYHWHERE close to a Microware. As partly suggested earlier, higher the better and centrally located to most/all your devices.

Agree the ceiling trick did not help me much either, the only reason we see them placed near ceiling at general places is just for the convenience and to keep it safe from accidental damages.

The ceiling thing works as the signal radiates in a downward loop, so the higher the router the better it's coverage will be.

Use an app like InSSider on your android phone and you'd be able to find out the strength of signals at various locations by keeping the wifi router at a central location.

Consider the straight line between the router and other devices.

You may say that a wall is only nine inches thick, but put the router one end of the wall, and the other device, on the other side, at the other. Now there are many feet of brick or concrete in the way. Now consider the possibilities with multiple walls.

Place the router in the 'geographical center' of your home or whatever is comfortably possible near that point. Keep it on a slightly higher level than your other network devices.

Learn about its antennas and then you can orient them or the router (in case of built in antennas) for the best range.

Keep it away from large metallic objects like cupboards, almirahs, Kitchen racks etc.

(My home is in a L shape and I have kept my router outside my home according to the 'center' and it gives me better signal at both the ends of the 'L' rather than keeping it in a room in the center of that 'L'.)
