I am facing a challenge to remove headshell from tonearm of Technics SL-Q3 turntable. The headshell seems to be very right. Is there a way to remove stuborn headshell?

Regards,

Santosh

Dear Santhosh,
It is really a big challenge. If you use too much pressure , you may damage the arm. You can try applying some spray of WD 40 and be patient. After each spray, apply as little pressure as possible. It may take a couple of days'

Hi kuruvilajacob,

What is this WD 40 Spray and where it is available?

Regards,

Santosh

Hi Santosh,
You can find it on a hardware store. Please don't spray it over any moving part(TT bearing)or cartridge.Zorrick 88 can also be used.
BTW: I am also facing the same issue with my TT.

Sachin

In the past, I have helped a friend of mine remove a tight headshell from a Garrard TT which was in storage for about 30 odd years. What we did was we carefully applied a bit of heat (using the side of a soldering iron) on the metallic screw join and gently tapped the warm joint (all around it) with the head of a small screw driver (very gentle, like tapping a little baby), after this we managed to unscrew the headshell and dislodge it. However, this is a risky proposition so please attempt it only after some trial runs on a piece of aluminium pipe or likewise.

This is a very risky method.Tonearm wires are very thin and could get melted.I can't heat my tonearm as it is made of Plastic(carbon fiber?).

+1 to that, you need to be very skilled to do this, of course if the TT in question has a technics s-tonearm and technics headshell then there's nothing to worry, but the heat applied should be just luke-warm, not hot.
