Hi All,

My friend has an old model of Onkyo HTiB. nought 6 years back. I dont remember exactly the receiver model. I will chk and update soon.

The receiver has 4 HDMI In and 1 Out. 2 Optical In.

But the drawback is the receiver doesn't support audio over HDMI. That is what Onkyo ppl said.

Current setup.

Since the receiver does't support audio over HDMI. He connected to devices as below.
Airtel HD and PS3 are connected to Samsung TV with 2 HDMI. and Opticals from both are connected to HTiB.

We are planing to get a Media player (with Optical Out). The concern is we, he dont have 3rd optical for media player to connect (as receiver doesn't support audio over HDMI).

So i am suggesting a HDMI switch with optical out from Monoprice, i came across this switch in one of the thread.

Model 1
Model 2

And the connection will be as below.

As the moniprice HDMI switch has 4 HDMI in and 1 optical Out.

1. Optical Out from HDMI Split will be connected to Receiver Optical In
2. HDMI Out of Receiver will be connected to TV HDMI In.
3. PS3 will be connected to HDMI 1 of HDMI Switch.
3. Airtel HD Dish TV Connection HDMI Out will be connected to HDMI 2 of HDMI Switch.
4. Media Player HDMI Out will be connected to HDMI 3 of HDMI Switch.

So there will another empty HDMI In in the switch for future use. and an empty optical in at receiver also for additional component.

Kindly suggest will this support what i am expecting. Instead of changing whole HTiB.

Specifications do not confirm if optical out supports 5.1 or only stereo. The customer review in the product link says some issue with audio out.He tried it with old receiver.Best way to email monoprice and clarify.
