Hi everyone,

This happens to be my first post in HiFiVision. I hope the experience here would be enjoyble.

I need to buy a HT setup for family needs which pertains to TV (Airtel STB), movies and some music. Audiophile quality output is not a priority but instead it should be be loud enough to satisfy an audience of 10 people.

The room size is a problem since it is double height and a large room as well and the budget is not enough for the same. Kindly suggest what could my best bet in this budget and how should I go around looking for the products.

Budget: Anywhere around 50k mark +/- 5k

P.S. From a family point of view any Sony HT would do

This is the sony component system I'm looking at currently:
HT-DDW5500 : Home Theatre Component System : Home Theatre System : Sony India
Does it provide value at 45k?? I still have 5k left so where do you think they could be spend if go with this system???

I have been through other threads regarding AV receivers which in my budget are the basic entry level products like Denon 1311 though I'm not sure about the speaker packages and also whether they would be loud enough to fill the room decent sound.

ProFX has a distributer in Lucknow but I can source stuff from Delhi since i'd be going there in Mid - Nov. Please advice what would be a better bet in this case.

Regards

Hi

I guess you can surely go with HT-DDW5500 as i had personally auditioned it couple of times at mall near my place. Even I did consider it at one point of time. You can also look at Samsung which have couple of home theater in same price range.

Basic difference in HTiB and separate system is that you cannot modify your HTiB while in separate component like AVR you have freedom of designing your own HT. Just select AVR as per feature and power requirement, purchase good speaksers and thats it...

But do make sure that designing HT (separate AVR/Speakers/Cable/BD Player) is always gonna be more costly than HTiB. Normally good speakers will at least cost double the price of your AVR.

BTW I guess with hi-end Sony HTiB they are having an offer for free Bluray player.

Do let us know what do you decide finally.

Regards

guys please.............how can you even think of sony, samsung when you talk about serious HT. Leave them to make tv's, let the experts handle HT and audio.

You want to look at a good AVR and pair that with a good 5.1 speaker system. Will be hard to squeeze both under 50k but give it a shot. Go with an entry level AVR from Denon, Marantz, Onkyo and pair that with a satellite 5.1 speaker system.

AVR : Denon, Onkyo, Marantz
5.1 Speakers : Wharfedale, Boston Acoutics, Polk Audio, etc........

Another option would be to also look at HTIB systems from Onkyo. They start with HT-S3500 @ 30k and onwards..........Please demo and hear anything you want to buy.

I missed out reading date while replying on this post. My mistake.

@ Aakashr: Is it necessary to audition AVRs as well. I thought all AVR gives similar output with given to inbuilt features. I pressed that it is speakers which make huge difference in sound quality.

Since someone replied will update the thread accordingly

Bought Onkyo 3300 couple of years back ~ 22k. Separate components were coming out to be very expensive. Just the AVR was costing more than the whole package.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
