Hi All,

I am on the lookout for a HT setup within 45K. Initially I had shortlisted HT3300, however since music is also important I decided to extend my budget to accomodate a complete music+ movies setup.

After going through various discussions, I have shortlisted the Onkyo SR508 and HT728 speaker package which seems to be within my maximum budget.

My usage is 50% movies and 50% music.

So do experts still recommend the above setup ? Place of purchase would be Delhi.

Thanks.

Can u settle with a pair of speakers for now and go on upgrading down the line?? coz IMHO, that would be the best option for a complete, mind blowing setup.

Get the AVR, get a pair of Mezzo1/2 now along with it and later when u have some moolah with u, buy a center and surround pair. Can assure u wont be disappointed that u waited.

Hey, Thanks for the reply.

Ok, if we think about upgrading later, I have a thought.

Can I use my existing satellite speakers from my Logitech Z680 setup :o? I have 2 front, 1 center and 2 rear speakers (I know, but I don't want to giveup on these speakers :D)

So right now I can go for the receiver SR508 + Active subwoofer + existing satellites?

Later on, I can upgrade my satellites to something more decent. If this sounds feasible, which subwoofer can I go for ?

How about getting the Onkyo SR508 + Velodyne Impact 10 subwoofer and use the existing satellites temporarily ?

Will the satellites kill the entire system or will they do a decent job for abt 6 months ?

bump....any suggestions ?

ONKYO AMP is best for movies and good for music as well. For your budget and your listening taste ONKYO will suit you well.
Even though ONKYO amps are good choice, ONKYO speakers dont perform well as its competitors.
If you could increase your budget, get paradigm/wharfedale entry speaker package far more better than onkyo speakers. I think it cost you around 28-35k max.
In ONKYO speakers weakest point is its SUB.

You could consider DENON amp as well if you need more musically. And you have to increase your budget as well.

Tats a better idea....+1 ...Build yr setup...step by step... Get good Bookshelves,,, the Meezos are best in their league... leave the Aviano s behind too...U can get the Surrounds and Centre later...jus get the wiring done if its in-wall.... Getting a cheap 5.1 setup den a good 2-ch setup is not advisable...Meezos are mind blowing.. Audition dem for yrself..with a Denon or Yamaha AVR...

Auditioned the Onkyo SR508 + HT728, great for movies, good for DTS Audio tracks, average for MP3/audio tracks.

Then auditioned the Pure Acoustics Supernova 5 with FS speakers, overall great performance in audio and movies.

Planning to audition the Wharfedale Diamond series before taking the plunge.

Are they only available with Bass n Treble Dwarka or are there any dealers in South Delhi for Wharfedale?

Auditioned the wharfedale 9.5 and 9.1 series, however I could not connect instantly to the speakers, somehow I felt something was missing.

Auditioned the mordaunt short mezzos 2 and 6, somehow it failed to impress me considering the price.

I am not saying the speakers SQ was bad, I am not an audiophile neither do I have any technical knowledge related to audio, maybe their is something wrong with my ears and they have been spoilt listening to cheap logitech z680 speakers :D

Then auditioned the Jamo S606 series and I liked them, I am not a bass freak but I do like a little bit of bass in my music. So finally I have decided to get the Jamo S606 with Onkyo 508, but the prices quoted for the Jamo 606 in CR Park are quite high ~28k.

Anywhere else in Delhi I can get a good quote for the Jamo S606 ?

Some price updates after talking to couple of dealers,

Jamo S606 Package - 2 S606 FS, 1 S60 Center speaker, 2 surrounds S602 = MRP Rs. 44,800
Subwoofer SUB 300 = MRP Rs. 27,800

Total MRP = Rs. 72,600

After discount = Rs.60,000

Onkyo SR508 with above speakers = Rs. 24,000

So total speakers+receiver = Rs.84,000

Any comments on the pricing? Can the price be any lower ?

I have the Onkyo 508 +728 combo for my. I had got it for 42.5ks in November from Kolkata.
They are working pretty well for me. I usually listen to DTS audio and Movies. I also play FLAC and MP3 via the PLII mode. It's very good.

And your record (price) has never been broken anywhere else in the country. :clapping:

So finally took the plunge and got the above config,

Jamo S606 package (2 FS, 1 Center speaker, 2 surrounds)
Jamo Sub 300

Speakers = 60,000

Onkyo SR508 = 24,000

Total Rs. 85,000 (Credit card payment)

Got speaker cable Bandridge 14 gage LC1259 for 90/meter

Satisfying experience till now, still playing around with the settings and final verdict can be delivered after a couple of weeks :clapping:

Will be ordering banana plugs next month. BTW, anyone used nakamichi banana plugs? They seem to be of decent quality and VFM plugs.

24 PCS Nakamichi Speaker banana plug connector 24k Gold plated - - 0534D

I think these plugs will be more useful than the monoprice plugs since the nakamichi plugs are double screws locking.

BTW, my source is HTPC and the receiver is taking the input as PCM for normal audio, is that the way it is suppose to be?

And boy, it is getting difficult to manage all those remotes :p, time to get a universal remote, any suggestions for basic remotes are welcome.

Congrats SS. Where r u located in Dilli? I have just ordered a Denon 1911 from US, and hence now the fight and hunt starts for the speakers. My budget isn't too much either. Its even lesser than urs.

I guess I might have to just settle with Floor standers for now and then add center and surround later.

I do have some options for 5.1 speakers from Klipsch, Energy take and POLK, heard only POLK till know.

Desperate to get a demo of Klipsch HD500

Thanks snorkel. I am from Lajpat Nagar.

Even I started with an initial budget of 25k and was considering the Onkyo 3300, but thanks to HFV :D increased budget to 45k, but the final dent was huge.

I stay in a rented accomodation, so room acoustics is nil. The speaker placements are not optimised but cannot help it. I went for FS instead of BS to avoid any additional expense on stands and I do not have any AV rack/table for the BS.

@Ashwanik007 - The cables were from Sight & Sound, GK.

Thanks SS, I finally got my hands on the AVR from US on 5th. Couldnt do much other than unboxing them and then boxing them back :)

Pity, I am yet to hunt for a Step down Xformer and then a good set/ pair of speakers....

So your Jamo's have broken in now?

I know that feeling, its like having a cold bottle of beer in front of you but no opener:D

I am not an audiophile, so cannot make out if the speakers have broken in :p
