htib with hdmi in..for use with laptop

can ne1 suggest me a descent htib 4 my purpose..
laptop--hdmi-->avr--video(hdmi)-->plasma(panasonic c10)
______________avr--audio-->5.1 speakers______________

if possible atleast 2 speakers should be floor standing...n it should be able to decode dts...dvd player is nt necessary...n is ne model available which can upscale as well?'
budget 20k...dnt mind buying frm grey market!!
 
You can get ONKYO 3200 for 25k,but not flr stands,
A stereo amp + towers can come for 20k(Norge)
 
does the onkyo 3200 do hdmi passthrough n dts decoding?
n if i play a video on the laptop thn will it be able to pass the video to the plasma n decode and play the audio??
my laptop does nt have any spdif or coax..so hdmi serving both is essential...
ne similar models frm lg or phillips??
n do codecs affect the audio/video quality of hd videos??
i use power dvd to play most of the stuff n have k-lite codec pack installed...
 
yea i use power dvd n its fab..
but just installed power dvd 9 yesterday was using 7.3 before..
7.3 used to work with ffdshow..this 1 does nt and i updated since 9 had support for hdmmi 1.3
bt under audio i dont see hdmi..i only see 2,4,6,8 speakers n spdif..
n soes nt play all formats like mkv(did play mkv bt no audio) etc.....i guess thts due to the fact tht it does nt use ffdshow n other k-lite codec pack stuff...
the UI is a lot better than 7.3
what version are u using?
 
so what will be the best option for me?

25k 4 just an avr is way 2 expensive...

so should i get a sound card tht has optical out?..nt inerested in the usb 1
i also got a hybrid tv tuner card with my laptop bt i guess its of no use for output..or is it?

i have a s-video(7pin)..will this be of ne use?

whats the cheapest way to play a hd movie n get 5.1 sound using my laptop?

wat abt 2nd hand avr's?

Few opt-
1.Add SC int/ext with spdf out + ONK 3200 = 27k
2.Used AVR(basic) 10k + satalite spk system(5.1) 18k = 28k
3.Grey AVR 15k + rest

You need either spdf out OR Laptop with 5.1 ana out >Htib 5.1 in(3200 dont have?) Rest is done by PowerDVD(eg downscaling HD-aud )

In desktop MB, we get atleast 3 stereo sockets.(3.5mm)
1.Audio out
2.Audio in
3.Mic in

We can config rest of them (other than aud out)as centre + Sub & surr spk out.
So same port can be used for 5.1 analoge out(3 stereo ports)

In the link 9,10,11 are 3stereo jacks(5.1)

So now you can connect these ports to AVR 5.1ana in with Stereo to RCA interconnects(total 3 needed).



Here 5.1 decoding is done by Laptop & then output 5.1surr to AVR which amplifies it.check with your Laptop.If you can ,enter sound card drivers control panal.



Coming to pioneer ,moment you read repeater,most of the time AVR cant decode HD-aud.

on pioneer website it says tht it can decode hd audio..n abt my laptop being hdmi 1.3 compliant..i really dnt have a clue...when wz 1.3 version released?

nw this if possible would be gr8..if hdmi to avr capable of decding hd sound is possible thn nthn like it..n wont power dvd do the decoding n thn send it?..or ne othr software?

othr i can do is get 5.1 ana out 4 audio n hdmi 4 video..need clarification if this is possible with two 3.5mm headphone+one 3.5 mm mic out

or can get a sound card with optical out...bt if the cost of sound card is more thn 1-2k thn maybe wdtv would be better

i thought it wz easy..laptop via hdmi to avr...avr sends the audio to speakers n video to the tv!
bt nw it luks so complex to me...
 
In 1st image(speaker section),I can see speaker option window where you can select 5.1 type perhaps.Check even advance settings on Top Rt.side.You may get additional info.

Once selected 5.1,you can see other spk appearing in CP & you can get 5.1ana out which can be fed to AVR with 5.1 in.Play MKV in vlc with selectin audio opt in vlc as 5.1(in vlc check audio device in audio setting)

This can help to play mkv OR Bluray mov with true surr sound (5.1)from Laptop.

n gud creative sound cards are in the range of 4-5k..
i guess it would be much better to get a wdtv rather thn spend so much on a sound card...
does wdtv play everything?

wdtv+5.1 htib w/out dvd player n with descent no. of hdmi ports n otical ports..n supporting dts decoding n hdmi passthrough...

i guess its better thn laptop..since thr r so many uncertainities involved..whether it supports hdmi 1.3..whether 5.1 ana is possible..hw will 5.1 ana compare to digital..whether thr would be ne avr in my price range which can handle hdmi audio as well as video...

i guess wdtv+a gud htib might be in my range...20-25
n would be much better since thr would be less clutter...i mean have the external hdd connected to my laptop...mayne a sound card as well...optical cable running frm my laptop or 2-3 analog cables running plus the hdmi 4 ideo n i tend to keep the laptop quite far away frm the tv..i am using a 5 m hdmi cable i knw...so thr would be a lot of clutter..

if wdtv can do all power dvd n ffdshow can thn i guess m sold...

coz if a sound card is required thn i think it is better to buy wdtv..even if hdmi in my lappy is 1.3 thn as u say a avr able to decode audio via hdmi will be more thn the price i pay for the complete htib+wdtv so it doesn't make ne sense...

only thing is if analog audio out might work n thr would be no quality loss thn i guess i might stick to it 4 the time...

bt as of nw wdtv looks the best option to me...i.e if it is capable of playing everything i throw at it..

cant do it ..it just shows 2 speakers stereo...selecting speaker mode is greyd out n can select it..maybe if i had the speakers connected thn it will allow me to select?

i mean no 1 uses 25k avr's 4 a 6-7 k speaker system right?
i have seen ppl with no spidf or optical out do it...or it might be tht they just connect speakers n r still getting 2 channel audio??

Its not like that.If your sound chip dont have that option,then not possible.
Now WD1 comes for Rs.6500 & WD2 for 8k. + Htib basic from Philips for 9 to 15k. 15k will come with spdf in.
(may other model come with optical in say Samy,LG)
Onkyo 3200(without 5.1 ana in)for 25k is all rounder with all possible inputs.
So total cost 32k.

If you dont want to run HD(mkv) mov,then DVDp with 5.1 output(like pio420 )
+ 5.1 spk(like creative) can give you true surr effect.
So total cost around 12k to 20k.(no HD playback)

Last opt like creative ext 5.1 card to Lapton SPDF(if present) + 5.1 speakers.
Cost around 15 to 20k.Here AVR can raise budget.
