Hi,

Well i have recently bought a full HD plasma, and i also have a ps3, i calibrated my Plasma, and now i want to watch HD movies to fully utilise my investment, but the prices of blue rays are just too much + blue ray burners also cost around 20 K, i searched for the alternatives, and the only one that i see is using an HTPC to download and then stream them to my Plasma, but i have been out of touch with computer technology for quite long, and i need some help with setting up my HTPC, anyone having any knowledge and willing to share on this topic ?
Thanks

if u have been out of touch with computers.. i wd say stay out of it.. rather get a good NAS storage drive with torrent client (one example is eTRAYz) and play the movies from PS3 (that is if it has LAN port and SPDIF)..

If you still want to assemble a HTPC.. there are several threads in the HTPC section which you need to go through..

Rather than providing you details.. here is a thread which gets updated almost everyday with the latest prices and configurations..

Latest Prices!!!! - Digit's Technology Discussion Forum

Preet, there are over 1170 threads talking about HTPC is some form or the other. Please do use the Search provided in the forum.

To cut a long story short, what you need is one of the following two options:

1. A slightly high end motherboard that has HDMI out, in built graphics from nVidia or ATI, and a decent sound chip such as 889 or 892 from Realtek.

2. A regular mother board and a medium graphics card from ATI such as the Radeon 5000 series. The best cards are 5650, 5750 and 5770.

Cheers
