HTPC ( Good News) Lg Bluray drive @ Rs 4990/- MRP

I purchased one LG BD Writer 2 weeks back from newegg.com and shipped via iccworld shopabroadonline service. It took me INR 6047 all inclusive of item price, shipping and customs (20%).

I got a blu ray RW drive in my htpc and I only use to rip my music CD's :(

If you have your movie collection in files like I do, invest that money in an HDD and get a dvd writer instead :)

btw i own only 1 blu ray disc :)

This LG can also play 3D content so it seems to be a very good buy, and also has a 12x write speed for Bluray media.

In fact now I regret for not checking LG site, I bought the same one for 5.5K LG BH12LS38

In fact any blu-ray drive with a minimum of 4x read speed can play 3D blu-ray disc. There are no specific 3D blu-ray drives AFAIK. This differentiation is only in blu-ray players.

Thanks.

Yes. 3D and 2D Bluray players are physically similar. Only the software is different and processing speed required is more.

Most sites are retailing it for 6.7k here - 7.9k  am I missing something here ?

4k is a fantastic price and makes it a solid buy, only if I can find it locally !

where did you find 6k plus price for this drive, are they indian sites, LG site says MRP is 4999 then the 6K plus ones must be imported ones.

Could you suggest a good soundcard for uncompressed audio, i think that is the biggest building block as drives were always cheap. Liteon is also a good option @ 5k much more reliable than LG.

Can anyone suggest affordable External Blu-ray drive (USB) make/model/price available in Hyderabad or online buy option.

Blu-ray writing feature is not required (considering that writing feature will increase the price)

thanks

Hi Htuser,

I suggest you invest in getting a slim (laptop) blu-ray drive and can get easily a outer box which fits exactly with usb kit. I have the same with me the lg slim blu-ray drive I got it from US and the usb kit for around 350 from SP Road bangalore and use this as the external blu-ray drive. I do not see any difference, I played all blu-ray drives without any problems.

I am suggesting this because stand alone external blu-ray drives from asus/sony would cost more than the combination I suggested. You can refer to the www.itdepot.com site for the slim blu-ray drive. Also if you have a laptop then if there is no need to have the external drive then just replace your laptop drive with the slim blu-ray drive.

Thanks.
