I see that Onkyo AV receivers can passively passthrough selected HDMI input, when the AV receiver is in hybrid standby mode.

My question is how much would the AV receiver consume when I put my AV receiver in hybrid standby mode. The user manuals does not cover this topic

I'm interested in this feature as my LCD TV do not have a Audio Return Channel or Optical Out. So planning to connect all my devices to AV receiver and then leave AV receiver always in hybrid standby mode, when not watching a movie.

What model Onkyo ? It would say somewhere in the manual what wattage it uses in standby.
But are you sure it will work ?

The thought I had is - It will pass HDMI through in standby. So all the audio and video will go to TV in standby. Nothing gets amplified in standby, but your TV will do picture and sound, so its useable. However all other sources need amplification and sound will not be sent to the TV via HDMI. It has to go to speakers.
So you can watch TV via a HDMI In-Out with the receiver in standby, but you cant listen to a CD or radio unless the receiver is on. Unless I'm missing something.

Cool.
Srinath.

Greetings Srinath,
The AV receiver model is HT-R593, that is packaged in HT-S5700 HTiB.

Yes your understanding about the hybrid standby is correct. But standby power consumption in user manual may or may not be the hybrid standby power consumption.

For me it does not make sense to keep the AV receiver in hybrid standby if it is going to consume 40-50W.
