Some people in the forum are telling not to buy plasma tv's from flipkart etc.
why is it so?

Frankly speaking no idea about the longevity of panels of any TV. Most of the users we find around have had it since at the most 5 years, i think (may be a few who have jumped the LCD/Plasma bandwagon even earlier). So yes most of these panels should last at least 5-6 years. Not to mention my 40" full hd samsung conked just in 3 years.

none-the-less, this technology is here to stay and panasonic was, i guess, the first one to provide 3 yr warranty on panels. a lot of experts on this forum and on general internet have rated panasonic plasmas quite highly.

cheers

PS: Sony is also providing 2 yr extended warranty on LEDs (for a little more money).

check with the people who are saying so. they might have had some bad experience. i can't comment as i have never bought TVs from flipkart, nor do i know someone who has done.

Sony is giving 2yrs extended warranty on all Bravia LCD/LED tvs with additional money.:yahoo:

dont go plasma (bulkier, power consuming, heated panels
some argue colors are better ,itz just 5% would you like to invest in discarded tech) , grab a LED

120Hz - better,IPS ok
full HD -- bare minimum
40incher -- bare minimum
3d -- no unless show off matters , 3d rips and storing discs and 3d bdp are expensive affair

If you have ordinary cable/stb keep size as 32inch less blurry pics
if HD cable available 40 inch + , remember to donate 500Rs to great stb
company SUN TATAsky etc

if only movies , get pico LED projector in 15K ,via import
I have a Ultraslim toshiba 40 led , happy with it

One reason may be that bad couriers. Plasmas actually have glass panels which require careful handling. So it is advisable to buy locally even if the cost is a little higher.

Dude, dont go for plasmas. I agree with every body else who has suggested so becase plasmas are thick and concumer energy. Also when you compare screen brightness, LEDs are much better. Of all TVs I feel Sony LED should be good. I have seen 40 inchr Sony NX720 at my freineds's place. That has a sleek display. Also, some guy has posted review about EX520 as well. Here is that link http://www.hifivision.com/television/23903-sony-kdl-46ex520-led-3-weeks-use-mini-review.html This should give you a brief idea of where to put your money.

:D:lol:
Like they say in "mentos advt." : Dimag ki batti jalao!! (was it mentos, I dont really remember now!)
Dude, if u can get, a 42 V series pana will be a great experience & would be well within your budget. Buying from Pana shop is always recommended.

the first thing that sprang up in my mind after reading the (esp. 1st) comment(s) a few days back above was, people should exercise certain caution in posting some comments blatantly on a forum like HFV which has many senior & knowledgeable members, and was about to put these in words, but then refrained, thinking 'to each his own'. but i guess not everyone would like to be so tight-lipped everytime :D

if OP doesnt want to game on his TV, then he should SERIOUSLY consider a plasma too

rest, choice is upto the OP :)

Seriously, there is so much misinformation about Plasma and people jump to predefined conclusion that I can only laugh when they say they are bulkier, consume too much power, has image retention or burn in and the best one I hear is obsolete technology :lol: Maybe they didn't realise that its 2012 :lol:

nevermind ;)

even i had started my 'quest' on these lines (now i just smile when i think of that :)). gaming was also a priority for me, and i was of the opinion that i would buy anything BUT a plasma, against the recommendations of a few well-wishers, so adamant was i :p
but fate had the better of me. just by chance my eyes once fell upon a samsung 5/6 series LED-LCD TV besides an HD-Ready Panasonic plasma, and i could say even a person with mild colour blindness could easily tell the difference between the PQ of the two. that moment changed all my presumptions and preferences, and then i started putting in serious efforts in rogering myself up to get a REALLY good TV (that, now you know, had to be a plasma :D)

and without the slightest of hesitation, i can say that am mighty pleased with my decision (and the TV ofcourse), as well as with gaming on my TV :clapping:

so i can understand that not everyone shares the same opinion like me/us :)

P.S. - 'reds4ever', a member here, has come from being an LG LED-LCD TV user to a plasma user now, and a gamer too. he could be contacted by anyone whose mind is inflicted with doubts ;)

For movies or for normal TV viewing, I think plasmas are pretty good. The new neo plasma panels from Panasonic are much advanced and have brighter images than the earlier samsung/lg/panasonic plasmas.

The only problem, frankly, with plasmas i find is the reflective screen. So if you have a window right opposite the place for your TV its going to distract your viewing. Though i found this problem to be taken care of to a large extent in the neo-plasma panels from pana. Still not on par with LEDs.

cheers

nindo, how do u compare the picture quality of panasonic p42x30d,p42u30d with mid level sony hd lcd's

If you want to go for plasma then check Panasonic's ST30 model.. and also check Sony's EX520 Led and Panasonic's E30d & E3d Led.. My 1st preference is Sony EX520 and then Panasonic's Led.
